Continue and seal or save myself the effort?

Got some major bark inclusions.. Do I try sealing it with thin CA or do I simply save myself a lot of sanding and find a new piece of wood? Normally I wouldn't thinn twice about turning it into firewood - but, it's a very nice birch burl this, and the patterns are insane..

I am a looking for a axe to split firewood at home, but I need both me (average size guy, farily strong) and my partner (small female) to be able to use it and not get exhausted. I'm a wood worker, so it'd be great to just buy a vintage head and make the handle myself.

What weight head would you say is appropriate for us both to use?

The chopping is small scale - we don't need to chop massive blanks or anything, but there might be the odd knot to go through.

Thoughts?
