Hey guys! I’m looking into backpacking Indonesia and was just wondering what hiking shoes would be best? I’ve only ever owned one pair and they were cheap, I’m not much of a hiker so haven’t got a clue. The trip would consist of hikes up volcanoes, through forests and seeing waterfalls, basically trying to see the most I can of what Indonesia has to offer, so a tough all-rounder shoe would be great.

I’m not sure if an all out hiking boot would be best, given the fact it’s tropical and the breathability aren’t the best on them, but not sure how trail runners would cope with it. All I know is that gortex would be bad in that climate because they wouldn’t dry off in time.

Any advice and recommendations would be appreciated, thank you!
