I've put together a Wineskin wrapper for The Sims 3 on Mac that includes every DLC available. It was surprisingly hard to find a working one, so I decided to build it from scratch myself.

This is actually a windows copy wrapped and translated to work on Mac, that’s why it was so difficult to find exactly what I wanted.

Since so many people did not know how to install it, here’s a video I’ve made explaining everything.

EDIT 1: if you’re using an Intel Mac

I’d recommend using bootcamp to install windows and run it natively (it needs around 50GB free). Here’s a video.

EDIT 2: if you’re unable to install mods:

0. If you already know the mods location, make sure you have the resource.cfg file (available here and basically all over the Internet). The lack of this file prevent the game from reading the mods! If you don’t know the folder’s location, keep reading.

1. Open Terminal and type exactly:

2. sudo /usr/libexec/ locate.updatedb

3. Press Enter and wait for it to finish.

4. Then type:

5. locate Saves | grep -i sims

This command will list all the locations where a "Saves" folder exists, helping you find where your mods should be installed. For example, if you get a path like:

/Applications/Los Sims 3.app/Contents/SharedSupport/ prefix/drive\_c/users/Public/Documents/Electronic Arts/ Los Sims 3/Saves

then your Mods folder should go here:

/Applications/Los Sims 3.app/Contents/SharedSupport/prefix/drive\_c/users/Public/Documents/Electronic Arts/Los Sims 3/Mods.

If the “Mods” folder does not exist, you can just create it and it should work, but bear in mind the folder **must** be named exactly “Mods”, respecting the uppercase, lowercases and with no spaces.

EDIT 3: if you’re unable to open it even after xattr:

In some privacy setups, you may also need to go to System Settings > Privacy and Security > scroll down > Open Anyway. After that, fully restar your Mac (uncheck the “open windows again after restarting” option).
