Looking For Learning Partners

I’m a freshman in college in the US and I’m looking for a few other college students who are interested in AI/ML and want to learn together long term.

Right now I’m still pretty early in the process. I’m taking Calculus I and an intro Java course in school, and outside of class I’m learning Python. My long-term goal is to become an AI engineer.

I’m mainly looking for people who:

  • Are currently in college in the US
  • Are beginners or early-intermediate in programming/ML
  • Want to eventually get into AI/ML engineering, SWE, research, or something similar
  • Are actually interested in consistently learning and building projects
  • Want to become friends too, not just connect on LinkedIn and never talk again

It would be cool to have a small group where we can share what we’re learning, work through problems, build projects together, talk about classes/internships, and keep each other accountable.

If you’re around the same stage and interested, comment or DM me with what year you’re in, what you’re currently learning, and what you eventually want to do.

Looking for people to learn together as complete beginners

I’m a freshman studying Data Analytics and I’m starting to learn Python outside of my coursework, with the goal of eventually getting into machine learning.

I’m looking for other people who are also complete beginners and want to learn together, share resources, work on projects, and keep each other accountable.
If you’re interested, DM me!

What should a freshman do outside of class to eventually break into quant?

I’m a freshman at a non-target school majoring in Data Analytics, and I’m planning to add Math as a double major.

This semester, I’m taking Calc 1 and an intro programming class, along with my other gen ed courses.

I’m interested in eventually pursuing quant research, and I want to make the most of my time outside of class. I’m wondering what I should prioritize early on in terms of:

-Programming (Python, C++, SQL, etc)
-Math
-Stats
-Personal projects
-Competitions
-Clubs
-Research
-or any other topics/opportunities I am missing

Given that I’m at a non target, what would you recommend I focus on during my first semester? What would give me the highest ROI for eventually becoming a competitive quant candidate?

Best Double Major for the Most Career Opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between Finance + Mathematics or Computer Science + Mathematics as a double major. My long-term goal is Quant Research or Quant Trading, but I also want strong career flexibility if quant doesn’t work out.

Which combination do you think provides more opportunities in the long run, and why?

I’d appreciate advice from anyone with industry experience or who has faced a similar decision.
