Is there any alternative to UAE?

Inspired by another thread I saw on a different subreddit, again spelling out the end of Dubai.

Assuming those constraints, is there any alternative to living in UAE?

  • Ease of securing a long term residency (UAE offers a 10y renewable Golden Visa if you purchase a property for $550k, you can do that on day one)
  • Close to zero risk of getting mugged, having your car stolen, having your house burgled, being assaulted, beaten up, stabbed
  • No issues with homelessness, vandalism
  • Ability to smoothly deal with administrative tasks in English language
  • First world restaurants, shopping, entertainment
  • Direct flights to all major destinations of the world
  • No capital gains tax, or very low capital gains tax
  • No income tax, or very low income tax
  • No wealth tax

Singapore I guess comes close, but it fails on the first, most important point.

In order to live there, you need to get an Employment Pass sponsored. And for an employer to sponsor your EP, they have to jump through many hoops - they need to interview local candidates first (to prove no locals can be found to fill this role), they need to be cautious about nationality quotas (can't have one nationality dominate the payroll) and there are minimum salary rules depending on the field you work in, and your age.

If they fire you, there's no Golden Visa option to shield you, you have 30 days to get out. If you'd like to purchase a property, you'd need to pay 60% tax on top of it, as an EP. And even with that property purchased, if you lose your job, you have 30 days to get out.

The path to Permanent Residency in Singapore is a black box, the official criteria has never been released - your race plays a part, who you marry plays a part, and whether you have a son plays a part (as a PR, your son will have to serve for 2 years in the army). And the "permanent" residency needs a "re-entry permit" renewed every 5 years, Singapore reserves a right to refuse the renewal. If that happens, the first time you step your foot out of Singapore, you lose your "permanent" residency. There's also a path to skip the normal process and do PR by investment, however it costs $20m USD and has many other criteria attached to it.

UAE: 21 day delay in salary payment will result asset seizure procedures and travel bans on company managers.

From The National News: https://www.thenationalnews.com/news/uae/2026/06/04/late-paying-uae-companies-face-asset-seizures-and-travel-bans-in-drive-to-tackle-salary-delays

The toughest measures will be enforced if salaries remain unpaid by the 21st day. That is when the ministry is likely to issue executive orders for salary payments, initiate precautionary asset seizure procedures and impose travel bans on company managers.

Companies employing 50 or more workers and firms that repeatedly break the rules may also be referred to prosecutors, especially if authorities believe the violations could threaten labour market stability, according to the ministry resolution.

PSA: Addressing allegations of bots on r/ourUAE

It has come to our attention that some users are concerned about bots being present on our subreddit.

https://preview.redd.it/bx69wn1h9a4h1.png?width=811&format=png&auto=webp&s=3ffb8511c4ba282579518f20a1d8f1db95855329

We take those allegations seriously. Indeed over the past few weeks, we have seen an increased activity in comments, all displaying "the same opinion" often coming in the middle of the night.

Typical examples of such "bot-like" comments are displayed below:

https://preview.redd.it/8sy7g957aa4h1.png?width=777&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4dd9a3dae5ff8a240d83392258a0eeea38953d9

Please note - the above comment was caught by automated Reddit filters, but we still prefer to approve it and address it.

While we understand the concern of our users, we prefer not to remove those comments, despite all of them having "the same opinion" - that is anti-UAE, IRGC-apologist views.

We wholeheartedly disagree with them - but instead of taking the approach of other subreddits, instead of deleting the comments we personally disagree with, we prefer to engage with them directly, with an intention of dispelling misconceptions about UAE.

This is the opposite approach to one taken by our sister sub - indeed, any comment that asks questions such as "why you told us that u/RamblingMan2 and u/CertifiableBee stopped being mods in order to focus on family matters, rather than tell the truth that accounts were permanently banned by Reddit" will very likely result in your comment getting removed, and your account getting banned from the r/UAE subreddit. Indeed almost every comment on the r/UAE - Congratulations. We have new mods! has been deleted.

This is an example of a comment that got deleted, and resulted in a ban:

https://preview.redd.it/8cp8bxc4ka4h1.png?width=652&format=png&auto=webp&s=816e5ac1f6120ff102541e3d8d3cd974f39db2b2

Please also never ask questions such as "why did you choose a moderator who doesn't live in UAE, and says that UAE is a "shitty fake country".

This will also result in your comment being removed from our sister subreddit.

If you are interested to learn more about the moderation style of that subreddit, you're welcome to read our CONGRATULATORY NOTE TO NEW MODS OF R/UAE

\"Comment removed by moderator\" - common sight on highly censored subreddits

We believe that moderators should not be deleting comments that they personally disagree with, even if there's a strong suspicion that they're written by bots. That is why we will leave those comments on our subreddit, as long as they're written in relatively civilised manner.

r/ourUAE is a subreddit where free, often heated, discussion can take place. Accepting anti-UAE, pro-IRGC suspected bots is a price we're willing to pay.

Misinformation #1

Saying this, we ask you to be on the lookout for misinformation.

An example of such is below - there is no Reddit rule against criticising other subreddits.

Ironically most of the comments displaying \"various opinions\" in this thread have been deleted by the moderator

Please always double check what you read on the internet.

For example, according to Reddit Rule 3, criticising other subreddits is explicitly allowed.

https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/27031145215252-Moderator-Code-of-Conduct-Rule-3-Respect-Your-Neighbors

Misinformation #2

Another example of such misinformation can be seen here. u/ScholarlySparrow, the sole founder of our subreddit, was not banned for abusing other members.

https://preview.redd.it/bhcam4zzea4h1.png?width=920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c541e8b241350ecb5f51285d2fe7e7d81adef3cd

Final Words

Please avoid contacting the moderators, and avoid making any calls to action. No harassment of the new team of our sister sub will be tolerated, and such comments will be removed. For more information on what is allowed regarding discussing what's happening in other places on reddit, please see our PSA: https://www.reddit.com/r/ourUAE/comments/1t9wbel/psa_discussing_bans_responsibly/

Ban showboating - example:

  • "Me too!" pile-ons. Replying "Just tried it, banned, lol me three!" under a "look how easily I got banned" post is treated as an indirect call to action. Even if the OP didn't explicitly ask for it, a chain of copycat attempts is exactly the behaviour the rule covers.
  • IMPORTANT: Badge-of-honour framing. Posts/flairs/comment chains that reward or celebrate getting banned from another sub function as encouragement to go do the same.

Is strictly not allowed.

This note is addressing serious allegations regarding rampant bot activity on our subreddit.

With love,

r/ourUAE Mod Team

Accusations of using alt accounts to moderate r/UAE addressed by the mod.

We sincerely welcome u/epiDXB coming to our subreddit on Monday to clarify the accusations that r/UAE has been moderated from three accounts, all belonging to the same person.

It is important that such wild accusations are cleared up, and that our dear users of r/ourUAE are aware, so that they don't accidentally defame innocent people. The response was placed in a comment thread, and then later deleted, therefore out of responsibility for our users, this thread was created.

Please avoid contacting the moderators, and avoid making any calls to action. No harassment of u/epiDXB or anyone else for that matter will be tolerated, and such comments will be removed. For more information on what is allowed regarding discussing what's happening in other places on reddit, please see our PSA: https://www.reddit.com/r/ourUAE/comments/1t9wbel/psa_discussing_bans_responsibly/

Defamation in UAE can carry serious consequences. This thread serves as a warning to always keep local laws in mind when posting on social media.

Context:

For those not up to date with the events, the accusations arose from a comment thread on r/dataisbeautiful.

In the thread, users u/CertifiableBee (who decided to focus on family matters), u/RamblingMan2 (who decided to focus on family matters) and u/epiDXB, are arguing about superiority of English beer.

As you can see in the screenshot, all three accounts are having an argument with a user that doesn't agree with their opinion that it is an "objective truth" that English beer is the best in the world.

Link to the now deleted thread

Screenshot of the thread:

https://preview.redd.it/le8aunrx0v0h1.png?width=329&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ba8f5df9069614aea07e90c1bd52dc11d63be30

epiDXB response

Now that the context is explained, let's get to the meat of this announcement.

u/epiDXB kindly came to our subreddit in person to clarify those accusations. Indeed, it was a pure coincidence that all three accounts used to moderate r/UAE with full permissions have come across the same comment thread. It was a coincidence that all three accounts write in exactly the same way. It was also a coincidence that all three accounts agree on the objective superiority of English beer.

u/epiDXB response pasted below:

https://preview.redd.it/sqzdzadk2v0h1.png?width=589&format=png&auto=webp&s=da88e46e993a2e63e682036c1b726adb5685717a

The response from u/epiDXB states that u/epiDXB, u/CertifiableBee and u/RamblingMan2 do not belong to the same person. They are all individual people, united by their enjoyment of beer.

Due to my accusation of this being a lie, I'm currently waiting to be contacted by u/epiDXB lawyer team, and am making my final arrangements before my inevitable jail sentence.

Dear r/ourUAE community, when the inevitable happens, I hope that you will visit me in jail. Please write letters to me, as I will miss you guys.

This post is written in good faith, so that our users do not accidentally become my jail mates.

Kind regards,

u/Mr-Expat

Congratulations to new mods of r/UAE, our sister sub!

As you might have heard, yesterday, two out of three accounts (which are definitely not the same person) used to moderate r/UAE have been banned from Reddit. We do not know why, and we don't want to speculate on it. It is just a statement of fact.

The remaining account u/epiDXB, has informed the r/UAE community that those moderators have decided to step down to spend more time on family matters.

https://preview.redd.it/2rju4k868n0h1.png?width=1206&format=png&auto=webp&s=abce463a4ec231a7fd5af2eb94eb5904bc7b0cee

The voluntary step down to spend more time on family matters happened in a dramatic fashion however, as they must have found a "voluntary reddit ban" button in the interface, with both accounts being banned from reddit.

We congratulate the remaining account u/epiDXB on efficiency in handling this situation. A recruitment drive for new moderators has been launched, and worthy candidates have been found very quickly.

https://preview.redd.it/ed5u72d78n0h1.png?width=1206&format=png&auto=webp&s=4814dcbcd0e8ac7918b7976ec43a210185ffc77b

First, r/ourUAE mod team would like to wish u/IndicationBrave6546 best of luck in their new role. Although you haven't been on reddit for long, only 5 hours, some people indeed say that the best way to learn is to jump straight into it!

https://preview.redd.it/dyyv9us98n0h1.png?width=1206&format=png&auto=webp&s=cdf81daba05f8df807bac6026596640b56992c07

EDIT - update 7:11 PM: unfortunately it appears that u/IndicationBrave6546 has also decided to "spend more time on family matters" (banned).

Second, we would like to congratulate u/Valuable_5505 on assuming the new responsibilities. As a more senior new mod (by 3 hours of account age) we hope you can guide the rest of the team on this journey of responsibility.

EDIT - update 9:55 AM: unfortunately it appears that u/Valuable_5505 has also decided to "spend more time on family matters" (banned).

https://preview.redd.it/vl1pc8a88n0h1.png?width=1206&format=png&auto=webp&s=31a7c47cdd000bc11949cf5e938bb8efa59ac1e6

EDIT - update 7:57 PM: We would like to congratulate u/Weak-Grapefruit-6583 on becoming a new mod of r/UAE after previous two additions had decided to "spend more time on family matters" (banned)

We genuinely wish you success in your role, and hope you can make r/UAE a better place.

As u/Weak-Grapefruit-6583 is an account that hasn't been created in the last few hours, naturally it has been added with a more limited set of permissions:

https://preview.redd.it/trpzl5r5cq0h1.jpg?width=1206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59e6b2542c2857fa4c2152859cd7a50fb79d3dfc

Naturally, the accounts that were 6-9h old were being added with Full Permissions.

Nonetheless, we wish the new moderator well.

We wish you the best of luck,

It's a sensitive situation, please do not give ammo to those who wish ill to r/ourUAE

PSA: You are not allowed to post your own images and videos of military actions connected to UAE. Fake/AI images of the war are also not allowed

As the unprovoked attacks of the terrorist IRGC regime unfortunately continue, we believe it's worth reminding users of the current rules around posting imagery of military actions connected to the UAE.

Posting your own images or videos is not fine. This is explicitly prohibited under UAE law.

The governing legislation is Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Countering Rumours and Cybercrimes (in force since 2 January 2022). The articles directly relevant to filming, posting or resharing footage of strikes, interceptions, debris or damage are:

  • Article 22 - Dissemination of Information to Harm the Interests of the UAE. Criminalises providing information, data, reports or documents not authorised to be published or circulated, where doing so would harm the interests of the UAE or its government agencies, or harm its reputation, prestige or dignity. Penalty: imprisonment (3 to 15 years under the UAE Penal Code).
  • Article 23 - Incitement to Harm the Security of the UAE. Criminalises disseminating information, news, cartoons or any other images which would endanger the security of the UAE and its higher interests, or harm the public order. Penalty: imprisonment and a fine of up to AED 1,000,000.
  • Article 52(2) - Spreading Rumours and False News during a Crisis. Where false news, data or rumours capable of inciting public opinion, disturbing public peace or spreading terror are spread during epidemics, crises, emergencies or disasters - which the current situation plainly is - the penalty is imprisonment for 2-3 years and a fine of not less than AED 200,000.
  • Under Article 71, all three of the above are classified as crimes against the security of the UAE, which makes them non-compoundable and carries automatic deportation on conviction for expatriates.

In practical terms, the prohibition covers: missile strikes, drone interceptions, debris and damage, military installations, government buildings, diplomatic missions, airports and critical infrastructure.

The UAE Attorney General, Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, has issued a formal public warning (statement carried by WAM, 6 March 2026), stating that disseminating such material can "incite public panic and create a false impression of the country's actual situation". He has further confirmed that the Public Prosecution will take legal action against violators without leniency.

Fake or AI-generated images of the war are also not allowed. This isn't against reddit's sitewide rules, but it falls squarely within Article 52 of Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021, which criminalises the circulation of false news, false data or "tendentious, misleading or erroneous rumours". AI-generated content depicting strikes, damage or attacks falls directly within that. The Attorney General has explicitly extended his warning to fabricated clips and AI-generated or digitally manipulated scenes, including content falsely claiming missile strikes or attacks on facilities.

Sources:

  • Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021, full text: UAE Legislation Portal
  • UAE Attorney General statement via WAM (6 March 2026), as reported by Gulf News, Arabian Business, The National, and Radio Shoma
  • UK Embassy in the UAE public advisory (X)
  • Reuters, CNN, TIME, RNZ - coverage of arrests under the law (March 2026)

The IRGC regime continues its pathetic, unsuccessful attempts to disrupt life in the peaceful nation of the UAE. Posting such imagery is valuable intel for the terrorist regime - real footage can expose the location of air defence assets and help adjust targeting, and AI-generated fakes feed directly into the disinformation campaigns the regime relies on.

We hope for your understanding on the matter. If you see such content, please report it.

PSA: Discussing Bans Responsibly

Hi everyone,

We've seen a steady stream of "I got banned from r/[X]" posts lately. You're allowed to talk about your experiences on Reddit, including bans. How you talk about them matters. Reddit's Moderator Code of Conduct Rule 3 ("Respect Your Neighbors") prohibits using a community to direct, coordinate, or encourage interference in other communities, and Rule 3 violations can get posts removed, users actioned, and in serious cases put this sub at risk. Quick guide so we can keep having these conversations.

Fine to post:

  • "I got banned from r/[X] for saying [Y]. Has this happened to anyone else here?" - sharing your experience.
  • "I think r/[X]'s rule on [Z] is inconsistently enforced." - criticising another community's moderation.
  • "I disagree with how r/[X] handled [topic]." - expressing disagreement.
  • "Since r/[X] doesn't allow [topic], I've started r/[NewSub] where it can be discussed." - just be mindful to follow the Code of Conduct in the new sub too.

Not fine - these are Rule 3 violations:

  • Direct calls to action. "I got banned from r/[X] for posting [Y]. Everyone go post the same thing and see if you get banned too." That's coordinating interference.
  • Modmail brigades. "I told the r/[X] mods what I think of them — everyone should send them a message." Don't.
  • "Let's all report [post] in r/[X]." Coordinating reports against another community.

Quick test before you hit submit:

>Could a reasonable person read my post or comment as encouraging others to go do something, such as: post, comment, report, modmail, vote, in the other community?

If yes, rewrite it so it's about your experience or your opinion, not about what others should go do.

Vent, critique, share, compare notes - just don't organise a raid.

Thanks for keeping this sub a good neighbour. Report anything that crosses the line and we'll take a look.

The r/ourUAE mod team

EDIT: Additionally, it was brought to our attention that in some places on Reddit, moderators are making calls to action to make false reports, by lying about the contents of the Rule 3.

The interpretation that "that criticising other subreddits and their moderators breaks Moderator Code of Conduct - Rule 3: Respect Your Neighbors" is simply false.

Please refer to Reddit Moderator Code of Conduct:

https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/27031145215252-Moderator-Code-of-Conduct-Rule-3-Respect-Your-Neighbors
