Carpenter recommendations for furniture?

Carpenter recommendations for furniture?

Looking for some recommendations on a carpenter!

We bought a beautiful antique desk, but it's just slightly (like 1") too big to fit through our office door. We're hoping to have a carpenter disassemble the legs and then reassemble the desk once its in the right room. The legs look like they're in two pieces but glued together.

Any advice or recommendations appreciated!

Edit: The door in question isn't either of the ones in the photo. The photo is just of the desk.

Trying to track down some Finnish candy I tried 20ish years ago...

Moi!

In 2006-2007 I had the pleasure of living in Jyväskylä for a year as an exchange student. I have lots of great memories of Finland, but one that has stuck out for me was the candy.

There was one particular type that was the best candy I've ever had, and I've been trying to find it since returning to Canada in 2007. No luck so far, so I figured I'd ask here.

I knew the candy as "gummy cell phones" but I'm sure it had a different name. I don't remember it being particularly popular with my friends. It was found at one of those pick-and-mix bulk candy stores, but I can't remember the brand. It was some sort of gummy candy, with an almost wax-like outside (like it would crack when bent) but was entirely edible. The flavours were tropical fruit IIRC and the colours were red, green, blue, orange, yellow, lime green, etc. . And they were shaped like Nokia mobile phones.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or where I could find some? I've been searching for 20 years and would love to share some with my wife.

Leftist Book Club reading "Capitalism Must Die!" by Stephanie McMillan - Details inside!

Introducing a new initiative in Nanaimo: the Red Star Book Club.

We're a group of lefties who keet bi-weekly. Our goal with the club is to meet other leftists/potential comrades, engage in collective study to help better understand the current craziness that is the world, and maybe even put some things into practice eventually. "Philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it" after all.

The book club picks modern texts that are not super dense and tackles them collectively, either through group reading or group reflection on set chunks of the text. The works we pick are not overly theoretical.

Members of the club have various experience levels with leftist literature, and newcomers are very welcome! The club is intended to be an introductory space for leftist theory.

Starting in a couple weeks we'll be reading Stephanie McMillan's "Capitalism Must Die! A basic introduction to capitalism: what it is, why it sucks, and how to crush it."

A description: "This 240-page book uses text and comics to explain in simple terms what capitalism is, how it works, why it's irredeemable, and what we can do to end it. Oppression, ecocide, inequality, and exploitation can't be voted away or escaped. We can't get rid of them through consumer or lifestyle choices. To end the atrocities, we need to build a worldwide fight against capitalism! Part 1 of the book explains the economic mechanisms of capitalism, and why the growth imperative is built into it. Part 2 explains the kind of organizations we need to build and support, in order to have a fighting chance against this ruthless global system. Throughout, cartoons make the points even more clear (and might make you laugh as well)."

I won't post any concrete meeting times/locations publicly, but if you're interested shoot me a message and we'll go from there.
