Japanese highballs — what soda water are you using? Bottles vs. home carbonation?
I’ve been really into Japanese highballs lately and I’m curious what everyone uses for the soda water.
In Japan I feel like you see those little bottles of soda everywhere for highballs, which makes sense since you’re opening a fresh one and getting as much carbonation as possible.
I’m considering getting one of the Ninja/SodaStream type machines and just carbonating the water as much as it’ll let me. Has anyone compared that to the small bottled stuff? Is it basically the same if you crank up the carbonation, or do the bottles still give you a noticeably better/more aggressive fizz?
Also looking for recommendations on specific soda waters if bottled is the way to go. Basically chasing that super crisp, fizzy highball you get in Japan.
