Oto turned golden after eating yellow pepper?!
I was SHOCKED when I turned around and saw what looked like an Oto ghost or molt inside the pepper. I could really only see his eyes! And then he swam out of it before I could get a good shot (second pic is him inside the pepper but it’s blurry because it was on night mode). I have some pics of the golden Oto and my normal colored darker Otos.
There’s 8 of them in the tank and only this one had such a drastic color change. A few others may have gotten slightly lighter in color but nothing like this!
I did some searching and I’ve seen people reporting Otos turning pale when stressed or when on pale substrate. Never seen somebody reporting an Oto turning golden. I don’t think they’re stressed; this is a mature 2 year old tank that’s got lots of plants and is overfiltered. They’ve been in here for over a year.
