I'm looking for someone to interview (over reddit) about communication in the deathcore community, for my English Comp class.
Hi there! My name is Dayna. I am currently working on an assignment for my English Composition class. I am to describe a Discourse Community and how its members communicate.
A discourse community is: a group of individuals who share a set of goals or purposes and use communication to achieve them, often through specific genres, language, and conventions (Swales, 1990; Borg, 2003).
My chosen Discourse Community is extreme metal. (I wanted to put deathcore but I feel my peers and prof will have a better time understanding if I just use the broad term of "extreme metal.")
Part of this assignment is to interview someone in this community. I don't know anyone IRL that is apart of this community, and the only time I see other people that are apart of this community is at shows, and my next one isn't until August (Ov Sulfur.)
I don't need long answers, and I would love any other info you want to share!
The questions I'm looking to ask are:
How long would you consider yourself to be officially part of the metal community?
What is your reason for joining this subreddit? Do you find yourself having productive conversations relating to Deathcore on here? Where else do you discuss the music and with who?
How do you tell an outsider of this community from an insider? How do you tell when someone is "posing" as a member of this community?
What are some unspoken rules of the community? At shows? In the pit?
What are some examples of jargon used in this community? (like breakdowns, blast beats, growls, crowdkill, and what do these terms mean)
Also, I have to credit you in my assignment, so if you have a username like "RectumInspector69," I'm going to need an alias lol.
