BattleBots Extreme: how would your fight card look?

BattleBots Extreme: how would your fight card look?

Classic Robot Wars had two spin-off 'Extreme' series involving wrestling-style side events rather than a single main championship. If BattleBots ever took on this idea (I think it would be excellent), what might an episode schedule look like?

Historical events included:

  • Vengence: head-to-head grudge match

  • Challenge Belt: head-to-head belt title, the winner of each fight taking or keeping the belt

  • Tag Team Terror: two-vs-two tag-team fights, traditionally breaking down into four-way madness

  • Wild Card Warriors: head-to-head novice-versus-veteran fights

  • Mayhem: three-way qualifier match for an Annihilator

  • Annihilator: multi-round six-way competition in which multiple bots fight at once and each round ends as soon as one competitor is elimated (immobilised, OOTA'd etc); the remaining combatants fight in the next round, onwards until one remains

  • World Championship: side championship involving international representatives

... and assorted one-off fights and championships, such as:

  • 'Championships' for other weightclasses (usually big rumbles)

  • New Blood: side championship for novice competitors, the prize being qualification for the next main season

  • All-Stars: side championship involving seasoned veterans

  • Themed melees: rumbles where all participants have the same weapon type, are from the same country, have similar jobs (e.g. armed forces, universities) etc.

For example, when people say 'bee' to refer to the Western honeybee, or saying 'phone' to refer to a mobile phone (as opposed to a landline), or saying 'did you see the game' where it is inferred to be a football game.

Is there a word for one thing being so ubiquitous as to become the inferred default?

April included international impacts at Mad Metal Machines, scrapping with scrap for ScrapBots 3, pints and pins with BBB's Big Bot Bash and unleashed Carnage at the Cube.

May is packed with the first of NHRL's Pro Tour event, the nordic Robot Rumble championship, featherweight fury for the Dutch Robot Games, Ontario's BotBrawl, Silicon Valley slams at Bell Brawls VII and a ruthless Robot Rodeo.

As ever, drop me a message if you know of a great event to watch in these months!

(Sorry it's a couple of days late! I've added a new 'Info' column for getting some background on the events.)
