How to properly self study

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing fine,

I am going to start my gliding training soon (21. November) and I need to self study very much. I need to read the book “Fliegen ohne Motor“, but I don’t know how I am going to remember everything on those 300+ pages.

How do you all properly self study? Do you note every important things on your iPad? I don’t have a tablet, but I don’t want to write everything on paper…? What are tips that helped you?

Thanks and have a good day :)

Honest opinion

Hi guys, I hope you’re all doing well!

I just wanted to share my recent experience with r/JetPhotos.

I’ve seen many newbies posting their shots there, being really happy that they finally got a nice picture of a plane, but the comments are often just focused on the negative aspects.

For example, someone posts a picture of a 777 that is a little soft. Everything else is fine, it’s just that one issue. You don’t even need to look at the comments to already know what the top comment is going to be:

“Read the guidelines.”

In 99% of cases, OP has already read them. They’re just new to photography and don’t properly know what a “sharp” picture is supposed to look like.
Yes, there are examples on JetPhotos, but unfortunately, they aren’t always that easy to understand for someone who is just starting out.
I just think that comments like these can really demotivate plane spotters.

In the end, we should be a community supporting and helping each other rather than trying to be better than everyone else.

Thanks for reading this far, and have a nice day! :)

No sun… is it a problem?

Titel basically says it. I had a delay in Helsinki and went planespotting. It was a cloudy day so there wasn’t any sun coming through. Is it a problem? I am new here so please no hat thx :)

Edit: I don’t even wanna begin editing if it was unacceptable from the beginning

Motion sickness

Hi everyone!
I’m planning to start my glider training soon, and I’m a bit worried about motion sickness.
I’d say I’m only mildly prone to it—probably around average or maybe a little better. I don’t usually have major problems, but I definitely don’t want to throw up on one of my first training flights.
Is there anything I can start doing now to reduce the chances of getting airsick? For example, are there exercises, habits, or things I should avoid before flying? Does it usually get better with experience?
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks!

How do you know the wind direction

Newbie here, I want to start my glider training at the beginning of 2027 and I am already practicing in condor 3 xD. The club that I which I will complete my glider license mainly flies the ASK 21 (advanced cross country pilots use the discus duo), unfortunately, the ASK 21 is a rather simple aircraft. There is no real FMC etc, how do pilots know the wind direction? Isn’t it also changing over the time especially when gust are. How do you get those perfect ridge unwinds? Just curious

Thanks in advance

Looking for people to fly with on VATSIM

Hey! I’m 14 from Germany and usually fly the Fenix on VATSIM around Europe. I only have around 50h on VATSIM so far, but my father works in aviation, so I’m already pretty familiar with comms and general procedures. I also know the aircraft quite well and have around 200h on the Fenix

I’m on Discord and just looking for some chill people to fly with. We can do full checklists and proper procedures if you want
