I accidentally stole $300, will I get in trouble?

I am from New Zealand and have forgotten about this incident but now that I might want to move to Australia in the future, am worried about an accidental theft.

I went to Sydney for a holiday and after finally waiting for the ATM, someone before me left $300 cash in the machine. I panicked as it was beeping and I didn't know what to do so I took it out and the lid closed. After doing my thing on the ATM, I stayed at the branch for up to an hour panicking and unsure what to do with the money. I stayed at the branch and called common wealth telling them the situation and asking them to take $300 from my account and they said they can't do anything. I went on internet banking and told the chat the situation as well. I googled information and they said what I did was a crime because if I had left the money in the ATM, the machine would give it back to the owner.

I remember thinking abut going to the police station but the nearest was too far for me to walk and I may or may not have emailed them. I don't remember if I did. But I know I definitely called the bank and contacted the bank online in an attempt to give it back. I ended up forgetting about it because i didn't think it was a lot of money and the bank didn't want to help and I was going back to NZ that week

Everything was recorded on their security camera and that was why I was afraid to leave the branch without giving the money bCk first but I didn't end up giving it back..

It's been a year now. Will I get in trouble for this down the line ?

If I do time while waiting trial and am not guilty, do I get a free pass to commit a crime?

Say someone's been on em bail (basically same as home d) or remand (Same as jail) for over a year. Then charges get dropped or u get found not guilty.

But just say in hindsight , u know this would happen as you're innocent but U still spend 2 years on em bail.

Technically speaking, are you allowed to commit a crime where the end sentence wouldve been 2 years as you've already done the time? So besides having a criminal conviction, do U get time served and no consequences?

So in theory, right at the end of the 2years em bail, right before ur found not guilty, can U go rob a supermarket or punch a few people then plead guilty which would give home d and in other words, time served?

We all know the system is fucked in keeping people on em bail or remand if they're innocent with no compensation. So I'm trying to find loopholes so we don't fuckin do time for nothing when innocently charged or make police be more careful next time they deny bail AND have weak evidence.

Edit: I specified you commit new crimes BEFORE you're found not guilty so new charges get added on before you're acquitted as I've seen in other cases, people were able to group their new charges with unresolved ones and have everything sentenced together. So if old ones were not guilty then new ones just become time served in my not-a-lawyer logic. I heard many people get new charges while on bail and they just end up doing trial and sentencing all at the same time and have time credited. So what difference is there if we just purposely get those new charges towards the end if we have no crimes to credit.

Edit 2: is anyone who responded a criminal lawyer or only saying absolutely no because it sounds crazy but without knowing how other cases have resolved?

Property managers in NZ r fucking unreliable and keep saying we can't afford it wtf

I've been house hunting for 3 months. Viewed over 40 properties and applied to over 10.

We are currently paying 1.3k a week for rent and have been applying to property around $900/week.

None of the property managers have ever replied to a text message. They do pick up calls though but never replied to any text. I've had one with Barfoot n Thompson who cancelled multiple times and forgot keys.

I've had 5 of them call all our references and bother them with a bunch of questions only to decline us despite references giving us star reviews. The excuse is usually we don't have enough money.

What is this crap ? The rental market wasnt this strict before with your income. We've never missed a day of rent in over 20 years. And can afford this rent. Who can't? There are 3 of us with an income. Why do property managers contact our references if they are gonna decline us? Why are they all so shit? There needs to be more regulations with calling references and then declining for reasons that had nothing to do with it. The references are doing us a favour and being bombarded with questions non stop is annoying if they were gonna decline us anyway.

I forgot to add one of the property managers told us the landlord only wants high status people and after turning down our application because we weren't CEOs, they LOWERED the price. We even offered 6 months upfront but they said the landlord wanted higher quality people. What does this mean? So now my class is also too low to rent ? I have been looking in the upscale suburbs but I didn't know our status matters too. This one was an Asian who told us bluntly that the landlord wanted only quality tenants.

I’ve had friends and my house robbed, parcels stolen, and cars damaged at different times in residential areas and the police always close the case saying they can’t get footage. Is this true or is the crime too small?

At what level of crime will they actually catch the culprit and how? Can they suddenly track cameras or what.
