Poor workout app design when doing water sports
Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to post, but this is my rant.
I’m the kind of person that says yes to any outdoor activities.
I do everything with my apple watch ultra. To date i have done,
- Hiking
- Mountain Biking
- Scuba diving (126 ft)
- Run a half marathon
- road biking 90+ miles in a day (not sure how i did that)
- skydiving
- skiing/snowboarding
- wake boarding/slalom
Besides these, pool, gym, tennis, rock climbing, pickleball and a bunch of other sports..
This watch is absolutely phenomenal. But there is an area it struggles and i think it could be drastically improved with a software update.
Today I tried surfing. Part way through I noticed my activity (surf) was paused. Why? No clue. Most of the time it’s because my watch is lose and it thinks I took it off. The thing is, it was tight, but my wetsuit was near it and i think it messed with the sensors. How do I fix this? Simple. Resume it, right?
Well.. not really. Between getting hammered by waves, wet fingers and a wet screen, I had to turn off water mode, fight the touch screen to scroll to the left page and hit resume.
Why Apple?
Oceanic+ allows me to control the entire app while the watch is locked and begin recording a scuba dive using the action button. We have two buttons and a crown. Why can’t we use those when the watch is in water mode?
Clearly it’s possible.
