Moving to PDX with elderly MIL - any and all advice welcome!

Hi yall! My partner, his mother and I will be moving to Portland likely next spring and I’m looking for advice. His mother’s cognitive decline is becoming more apparent, their family has ties to Arch Cave and when we asked where his mom might want to finish out her life, Oregon was the only option. My boyfriend is a musician, stage hand and backline tech. I am an artist and freshly graduated welder, we feel Portland is the best option for us. She wants to sell her house (here in CO) and get us into a house there, obviously this is a huge feat.

I’m looking for neighborhood suggestions, home-buying specs, overall advice and perhaps a dash of newfound community?

Also- I know what an atrocious time it is to buy/sell. Time is a bit of the essence, we don’t have an option to wait out the recession. 🫠 please be nice, this is about to be a whole shit storm of emotions for all of us and I’m really trying to look forward to this grand ‘ole move. Please help us keep spirits high, it’s far too easy for them to be low these days.

Thank you all, we love PNW and I’m so excited to be around water again! 🫶
