Internship application

Are people hearing things back? I completed a test back in May but have yet to hear anything or see a change on my portal. Will they tell me if I’m not selected or do I just wait? The page says July was the last month for finalist section so I’m assuming not a good sign but maybe they’re running behind or something

COE appeared in portal but rejection email a day later

Had a great interview with an agency and a few months later someone reached out to confirm some of my experience. Since they reached out again I’ve been checking the portal and yesterday I saw “COE provided” so I got my hopes up and was just waiting for the email.

Well, the email came but the email told me that I didn’t get the job. I understand it’s my fault for getting my hopes up but what’s the point in updating the portal like that?

Oddly enough I got an email two minutes after that saying I’m under consideration for the same job but at a different location. Is there something more going on or am I just starting the process over?

Anyway, mostly just expressing frustration at a process that doesn’t really have to be this frustrating.

Personality assessment help

Curious about a recent development. I recently took an assessment for a position which was entirely personality based. It asked things like if I preferred to approach a problem on my own before asking for help or working with someone right away. I thought it was just to get a sense of who I am, but apparently I am ineligible because I didn’t score high enough on this test.
I believe these assessments are insufficient in identifying how people operate and function and am disappointed that they are used to disqualify. Additionally, it gives motivation to answer these assessments less honestly and pander. Any advice? I feel I am qualified for the position and can excel at the work, but this is not translating in the initial testing stages so what should I do?

referred for GS-11, ineligible for GS-9, not qualified for either

Here's the email I received today:

"Dear [NAME],

Eligible for the following position or positions:

GS-{SERIES]-11; You are tentatively eligible for this series/grade combination based on your self-rating of your qualifications.

Ineligible for the following position or positions:

GS-{SERIES}-9; You are ineligible because you do not meet the minimum education and/or experience requirements for this series/specialty/grade combination.

The following is your referral status for the position or positions to which you applied:

You have been referred to the hiring manager for position GS-{SERIES}-11 in {LOCATION}

You have not been referred to the hiring manager for position GS-{SERIES}-9 in {LOCATION}"

I am a recent graduate (4 years of education) and am new to applying to federal jobs. At the final stage of applying for this job, I realized I wasn't eligible for either GS-9 or 11 as both require some experience at the previous grade. I had already completed the rest of the application and just tossed a Hail Mary and wrote "applying as a GS-7" in the text box that prompted me to point to the portions of my resume that confirm my eligibility for GS-9 or 11.

I was given an assessment for this position, which was slightly surprising to me since I didn't think I was qualified for either of these grades, but I figured it may have been sent out automatically and took it anyway. I understand a referral is not a job offer or an interview, but it's my assumption that a human looked at this application and sent it to the hiring manager. I am confused on two points that I would like clarification on.

  1. How am I eligible for either of these positions with only an undergraduate education? I had 2 internships, research experience and publications, and a good GPA as an undergraduate if that changes anything.
  2. How is it possible that I am eligible for GS-11 and not GS-9?
