UAL or Westminster for MA Music Management?
So, I’ve secured an offer to study MA Music Management at UAL College of Communication as well as an offer to study MA Music Business Management at Westminster. The question is: which one is more likely to land me an entry level role at a big company like Sony or Universal after I graduate? From what I’ve gathered, Westminster is not a very high-ranking university at all; however, it is very career-focussed and has good connections and placement opportunities that could make me desirable to larger companies. UAL is a high-ranking arts university, with more focus on creativity, and therefore seems to be a better option if you want to go down the entrepreneurial route, but it does offer good opportunities to meet connections. I prefer the look of the university, the course and the location at UAL, and am also eligible for a scholarship there, which would help me out tremendously. Having said that, I need to think of what will make me most employable as that is my end goal. I don’t want to go to UAL just to find that it won’t get me anywhere. I don’t want to hear the usual “you should get some hands-on experience instead of going to uni”. I have already been managing freelance for years, and applying to entry level roles left, right and centre, and have gotten nowhere. I have made up my mind on going back to university. I think it’s also worth mentioning that I applied for the University of West London as well, but haven’t finished my application as I didn’t like the look of it when I visited; however, if anyone wants to try and sway me, I’m open to listen as I can still apply. Feel free to let me know of any other universities I might not have thought about as well (although I do want to stay London-based). Does anyone on this forum know anything about either of these universities/courses, and could you provide some insight? Thanks!
