Banquet Original Crispy Fried Chicken

First time we tried this, and we loved it. It's crispy and juicy from the air fryer (20-24 min) and even better from the oven (35-40 minutes).

We paid about $11 on sale, but we've seen this at $15 or higher. We got a mix of six pieces in the box.

It's nearly impossible to find frozen fried chicken anymore—at least up in the Northeast where we are. That's probably because most people go for the convenience and quicker cooking times of boneless strips and tenders.

We had this with some frozen Pillsbury biscuits (didn't even know those came frozen until this week) and some store brand (Stop & Shop) corn.

Yeah, we know...we didn't get a picture of the inside of the chicken. We'll definitely be getting this again though.

Our buddy Lucas claims to have eaten this meal over 500 times. He also says that the right way to eat is to cut up the steak and mix everything together into one glorious gravy-soaked mess.

We'd never tried this before. Never had Salisbury steak at all, as far as we can remember. So we didn't know what to expect. The microwave directions couldn't be simpler—5 1/2 minutes, no stirring halfway through. We both thought it smelled kind of like pet food while it was cooking.

It's not quite what it looks like on the box. There's no visible onions or mushrooms in the gravy. The Salisbury steak (named for a Civil War doc who fed it to the Union troops because he thought it cured diarrhea and dysentery) was okay. We have had Stouffer's mac & cheese on its own before, and we're split on that. One thinks it's okay; one thinks it's so salty that it's nearly inedible. (Also have to call out what may the most illegible ingredient list we've ever seen.)

In the end, we both finished the whole thing. Probably wouldn't get it again though, much less 499 more times.

First time trying these for one of us. I could have gone my whole life. Honestly though, they're not as bad as I thought they might be.

Nestle took away the crisping sleeve in 2024, so apparently they're not what they used to be. I guess the air fryer changes the game, but who really wants to waits 13 minutes for a Hot Pocket?

I tried it a couple different ways. Microwave directions are 1:50 for one, and that heated it to lava and made the insides throw up a little. Microwaving makes the dough too thick and chewy on the ends too.

The better version (pictured last on the larger plate) was one minute in the microwave followed by 3-4 minutes in the air fryer for crispness. The crust is much better that way. The inside is the same either way—basically just a mediocre pepperoni pizza.
