Ticks are bad this year. Anaplasmosis diagnosed last week

I’m in Northern, IL and ticks this year are the worst I’ve ever seen here. I take my Aussie ( Lucy) to the woods / Prarie to run off leash most days.

The wound shown is something I discovered about 10 days ago. Two very small foreign objects were embedded above her right shoulder. Even with magnifying glass , I couldn’t tell what they are Presumably, they were tick heads that broke off in her. But, I don’t recall any ticks embedded in last 4-5 weeks nor do I recall any embedded in shoulder area ever.

I pulled out the foreign objects and cleaned the wound with Chlorhexidine before applying RX Silver Sulphdiazine. That infection was cleared up in less than 48 hours.

She was overdue for annual vet appointment, so I made an when I discovered the infected wound.

She had been in bed a bit more than usual, but nothing dramatic and no other symptoms that I noticed.

Blood draw and lab work showed “ heavy exposure to Anaplasmosis”, a tick borne disease I had never heard of.

It’s a serious problem, and can be fatal if untreated.

Normal treatment is 30 days of Doxycycline, and there is a big downside to 30 days on antibiotics.

Our vet also offered a homeopathic remedy called “Lyme Tick Bites Balance”. This is what I am using to treat my Lucy.

Regardless of the treatment chosen, lab work will be done upon completion to ensure treatment cured the infection.

I’m sharing all this with the hope that it’s helpful or informative.

I’d love hear about anyone’s experiences with Anaplasmosis or other Non Lyme tick borne illnesses

Chasing Carp

Carp are spawning in this area and there are big fish in small bodies of water. Lucy likes chasing 3’ long carp in small streams.
