Sweet Little Gentleman Nipping

Sweet Little Gentleman Nipping

This little chap entered our home almost a month ago through adoption. He’s very sweet, very cuddly, but also very possessive.

It started with the cats. If they would jump up by us he would growl. If the cats tried to interact with me he would go for their hind legs and nip them. The cats cannot be by us anymore.

Tonight, my 6 year old approached me on the couch while the dog was lying next to me. He started to growl, which he hadn’t done before. That stopped. A few minutes go by and I let my guard mostly down (aka I didn’t have a hand on him), but my daughter was still away from him. He snuck under my arm and attempted to nip her face. Lucky I pushed her back and she moved back with enough reaction time.

Oddly enough he’s fine with the cats if they’re all just wandering around the house.

Now we are in a pickle. Even with training I will never ever be able to let my guard down. My child wanted a buddy dog, this dog will never be that for her.

So advice needed. Would training ultimately solve this? Or do I already know the answer?

Thanks, I’m feeling a bit despondent right now.
