Is it just us?
My wife (26) and I (29) are looking at, preferably a single family detached home but possibly a townhome in BC as FTHBs.
We have a decent down payment and have already met with a mortgage broker and realtor. We started all of this because there was a property that caught our eye and in our price range (more on this later).
Now I'm curious if this is just our mindset and if it's maybe not the smartest but we're looking at homes to buy as a place to call home and raise a family not necessarily invest for future gains. It seems a lot of people in our lives don't think the same way. We still want to take all the correct steps when purchasing a home and as FTHBs it's hard to look forward to this while asking for help and advice when the responses are generally negative.
It may just be the property we're looking at, it's a bit older but renovated, and has a decent 20% ish grade slope in the backyard about 10m from the back patio. Obviously we would have this looked at and ask as many of the correct questions we can but everyone is saying it's a bad "investment" and again we're not looking to invest, we're looking for a place to be our home and raise a family. If this property doesn't pass inspection or the slope is really an issue then we'd walk away.
Is anyone else searching or have bought a house with our mindset? How'd it work out for you?
