On the flip side, thanks for showing me I am in some sort of bubble, despite my job being to burst political bubbles, because I saw *nothing* but Esteves until about two weeks ago.

ETA: this was just a lil' cheeky lolsigh post, as we roll up our sleeves ta get to work moving forward.

ETA 2: On youtube all I got was ads for Chris Carr. My IG is leftist AF. My FB is my Republican family with a stray MAGA cousin or two and local neighborhood groups.

Here's hoping she does what it will take to win: address her past, head on, full transparency. Have a solid platform and do the WORK of reaching out to the haters. Also hire Mamdani's team.

July 17 - 31, rate my (Southern?) road trip and suggest stops along the way!

Here is the itinerary I’ve figured out so far - thank you to this sub! I think I peaked around 46 open tabs, ha! I also went thru 15 pages of my go-to travel planner, atlasobscura.com, mapping every place to see what would be feasible. I seek the advice of this awesome sub for stuff along the way to do/see/eat/any super cool places to stay, as hyperlocal-supporting as possible.

July 17 - 31: London - Athens (see photo) - Delphi - Agrilos (Beauties and Hardships- Milos (Sirocco restaurant?)- Messinia - Nafplio (Church of Agios Spyridon) - Chalkidas - Athens

Travel partner has to work the second week, so we have to stay in one place M-F our second week. Hoping for a friend’s house in Chalkida. What to do there? He says it’s only an hour from Athens, so I’ll be squeezing in the museums listed below on my own during the day. Should I reverse the itinerary?

Anybody got a good back up for a M-F stay for someone to work and me to have stuff to do? (more on that below)

Also would love scheduling/timing help. Like, how much time to spend in each place? I know that’s subjective…eg, is it worth going to Milos if we’re driving thru Athens again? IDK what traffic is like/how reliable Google Maps drive times are.

Is there a Turo for Greece?

The last time - and only time - I went on a vacation was 2017. We drove around Puerto Rico for two weeks, just finding a place to stay wherever we ended up that day. Is that at all feasible? I didn’t know July was the peak month for Greece so probably not? (not even sure my travel partner would do that, lol).

Delphi is my only MUST, based on personal recommendations. However, if it’d make more sense to go Athens - up north - Chalkida - Athens - I’m open to that. It truly seems like there are no bad choices anywhere in Greece.

I’m celiac and would love your gluten-free suggestions anywhere. I know it’s largely, naturally gf save the beautiful dishes involving phyllo. I’ve noted the words for wheat and flour https://rhodesglutenfree.com/gluten-free-in-greek-gluten-free-travel-card/

Not terribly hike-y, limited mobility.

Celebrating my 48th birthday, any Greek traditions to try for?

Beaches, yes, but not for like…all day days on end. Lunch stops while driving the route? Some super really cool beach place to stay along the route?

Things I’m into not on travel lists: house shows, anarchism and squatting, queers, day-drinking with old people, volunteering! Gin. My partner is sober, so any wineries would need to be interesting for them as well. He does like the occasional whiskey. Jungle, psytrance, house music.

Any neat local festivals - is your band playing? Let’s hang out!

My Athens list in pic.

Examples that piqued my interest but are too far: Tomato Industrial Museum, cinema in Lakki, Neo Moni (Chios), Epta Piges, the monastery zoo in Frini.

Thank’s y’all! P.S. just saw the Tuesday promo thread so I'm heading there after I post.

Ferto, ferto! (rooting for Akylas!)

Edit/update: how do they issue these and it's just....lost for weeks and weeks? I just.keep checking until it appears? They used their phone to take a picture of my license. Is it really a matter of the ticket is handwritten and dependent upon the cop typing it into a system?

Lord almighty I'm mad at myself, was physically slowing down to stop at a flashing red, but the cars in front went through, so I thought maybe I didn't have to stop because there was no opposite direction lanes/any other car in sight (one way + dead end street).

Except the cop who showed up right when I decided not to stop, like I know I was supposed to.

Anyhoo, thanks for the vent, I'm trying to find out how much it's going to be but the citation isn't in the system. I asked the cop how much it would be and she said, "I don't know, the courts change their minds all the time. The QR code on the back will tell you."

So I'm finally home from work trying to look it up and it doesn't exist. ATL311 says: "Citations are processed and available online within five (5) days prior to the scheduled court date."

My court date is the end of August?!

I'm guessing it will be up in the hundreds, an amount I will need to plan and budget and probably sell some plasma for...so anybody know if it'll show up before August?

...Nikema's opponent got a nickname from God hizelf, "God down." They consider themselves "an expert in all things concerning economic policy."

Their priorities, as submitted to Ballotpedia include:

  • Regulating foreign-owned business practices whose ideals are not in line with American business culture thus over billing, over taxing, and refusing refunds to consumers.
  • Advocating a capitalistic curriculum grades 5-12...

Their website is a joy - and they've got...merch? A used napkin on sale, $10 down from $50. Or an empty water bottle, a 2005 Civic for $100,000.
