TERRORIZED: Boyfriend Wanted In Balcony Push

Had History of Domestic Violence with Victim - NYPD Says

By Staff Reporter

Bronx Voice

October 7, 2026

BRONX, NY - Police have identified the man, they say, is wanted in connection with the horrifying Bronx balcony incident that left a young mother dead and her infant daughter injured.

The NYPD says Angel Carrasco, 31, is wanted as detectives continue investigating the early-morning incident at 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Bronx.

Police responded to a 911 call at about 3:38 a.m. Tuesday and found a 23-year-old woman and an infant with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated location. Investigators determined the two had been pushed from a balcony, according to police.

The woman, identified as Nathaly Ramirez, 23, was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where she was later pronounced dead. Her infant daughter was also taken to Jacobi in critical condition.

Sources said Wednesday that the baby, whom they identified as Carrasco's daughter, was later in stable condition.

Carrasco has now been identified as the suspect being sought, and police have released a wanted notice as the search for him intensifies.

According to law-enforcement sources cited by the New York Post, Carrasco and Ramirez were estranged and had a troubled history. Sources said Carrasco had allegedly brought Ramirez flowers that day in an attempt to reconcile after previous domestic-violence allegations.

That reconciliation attempt allegedly went badly.

Sources told the Post that Carrasco became enraged and allegedly shoved Ramirez from the 15th-floor balcony while she was holding the couple's baby. Carrasco allegedly fled afterward, leaving the flowers behind.

Carrasco had previously faced charges stemming from domestic incidents involving Ramirez, according to sources. He was charged with third-degree assault in January after allegedly slapping Ramirez, and he was charged in another incident days later involving an alleged break-in at her apartment. That case was later sealed, according to the sources.

Sources also said Carrasco had been accused of sending threatening messages to a former girlfriend. His record includes additional arrests, including cases involving false impersonation and marijuana possession, the sources said.

For now, there is no arrest. But investigators have put a name and face to the man they're looking for: Angel Carrasco, 31.

Anyone with information about Carrasco's whereabouts is urged to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Spanish-speaking callers can dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Tips can also be submitted through the NYPD Crime Stoppers website or on X at u/NYPDTips.

The Centennial Mass is only the beginning of a yearlong series of events honoring the school’s past while looking toward its future.

A Centennial Gala is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2027, at Marina del Rey in the Bronx.

67-Year-Old Biker Recovering after Collision with MTA Bus

By David Greene

Bronx Voice

September 28, 2026

BRONX, NEW YORK - Citizen App video captured the moment when a 63-year-old man briefly had his arm pinned under a wheel near the middle of a 60-foot “articulated” MTA bus at the busy intersection of Pelham Parkway South and White Plains Road.

According to police, the Bx-12 “Select Bus” was traveling eastbound along Pelham Parkway South when at White Plains Road the bus collided with the biker at 11:48 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23. At the time the bus was headed toward Co-op City and City Island.

A police official told the Bronx Voice, “Police responded to a 911 call for a pedestrian struck.” As officers from the 49^(th) Precinct arrived at the scene, the official continued, “The 67-year-old male operator of an MTA bus, reported that he was traveling on Pelham Parkway with the green light when the bicyclist operated by a 63-year-old male, rode in front of the bus against the red light, causing the bus to collide with the bicyclist.”

The official added that the bicyclist was transported by EMS to Jacobi Hospital and only suffered “minor injuries.”

The Citizens App video clearly shows that the “bicycle” police described was actually a motorized scooter.

News 12 spoke to one witness who stated that the man on the bicycle was carrying a puppy at the time of the crash.

The Bronx Voice was unable to confirm this, and if true, the condition of the puppy is still unknown.

Nearly two hours after the collision, four automobiles dispatched by the MTA were parked in front of the bus involved in the crash. A window for the bus’ front door was shattered. And an EMS paramedic vehicle was behind the bus.

A paramedic was observed taking the blood pressure of an MTA employee. An ambulance then arrived and EMS members walked the MTA employee over to the ambulance. Meanwhile, an overflow of passengers waited at the bus stop and swarmed buses as they arrived.

The Bronx Voice asked Joana Flores, a media liaison with the MTA about the crash as well as a fire over the weekend at the 242 Street Station, she responded, “For details on the fire, I refer you to FDNY. For details on the possible incident involving an MTA bus and pedestrian, please contact NYPD for more information.”

Throggs Neck Firehouse Memorial Honors 9/11 Victims 25 Years Later

By David Greene

Bronx Voice

September 15, 2026

BRONX, NY - Residents of Throggs Neck packed the street outside of FDNY’s Engine 72 / Satellite 2 at East Tremont Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway Service Road on September 11, as the community once again paid homage to those lost in the September 11th attacks, now 25 years later.

Many in the crowd wore T-shirts commemorating the 25th anniversary, others, including several young children, were observed waving American flags.

An unidentified FDNY official told the crowd, “Twenty-five years, feels like yesterday but look around. You don’t stand alone. Everyone next to you has a piece of that day in ‘em that hurts. Find comfort in each other.”

Speaking of a table in front of the 9/11 memorial outside the firehouse, the FDNY official said, “The yellow rose reminds us of the family and friends of the fallen who keep faith while enduring the pain of loss. The red, white and blue ribbon represents the ribbons worn on lapels by thousands who stood and honored the lives of our fallen.”

Kate Devine read from the poem “One” by Sheryl Sawyer, reading to the crowd, “As the soot and dirt and ash rained down, we became one color. As we carried each other down the stairs of the burning buildings we became one class. As we lit candles of waiting and hope we became one generation. As the firefighters and police officers fought their way into the inferno we became one gender.”

The names of over 100 area residents were then read aloud, followed by the ringing of a lone bell that sounded for each individual victim.

According to News 12 the memorial recently underwent an overhaul as the headstone was repainted and lighting around the memorial was restored.

Back-to-School Asthma: 6 Steps Bronx Families Can Take Before September

https://bronxvoicenyc.blogspot.com/2026/08/bronx-local-news-back-to-school-asthma-6-steps-families-can-take-before-september.html

Preparing Children with Asthma for A Healthy Year at School

By Natalie Trotto, DO, Pediatric Asthma & Allergy Specialist and Shoshana Fiorino, Senior Study Coordinator, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein

Bronx Voice

August 25, 2026

NEW YORK, NY - For many Bronx families, back-to-school season also means preparing for asthma season. September is often a busy time of year for asthma-related emergency room visits in children, especially in the Bronx, where asthma rates are among the highest in New York City.

Asthma, one of the most common chronic conditions affecting children, leads to inflammation in the airways, which can make it harder to breathe. Many asthma flare-ups happen in the Fall season. This is known as the “September Asthma Peak,” because seasonal allergies to pollens like ragweed can cause a spike in asthma attacks, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations.

Children are also returning to crowded classrooms and might be more exposed to respiratory infections like the flu and common colds. Other common triggers include dust, smoke, air pollution, pet dander, mold, exercise, and extreme weather changes.

Back-to-School Checklist

Before school starts, here are some things families should consider:

  1. Check your child’s inhalers and spacers: Make sure inhalers are not empty or expired before school starts.

  2. Schedule an asthma check-up with your doctor: Plan to talk about your child’s medications, triggers, and symptoms.

  3. Create or update your child’s Asthma Action Plan with your doctor: An Asthma Action Plan helps families manage their child’s asthma and is customized for each individual. It uses a traffic light format to help you and your child know what medications to take and when to seek care, depending on how your child is feeling:

  • Green Zone is for everyday and when your child is feeling well.
  • Yellow Zone is for when your child is not feeling well and is starting to have symptoms like mild coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath.
  • Red Zone is for when your child is not improving and needs urgent treatment to prevent symptoms from getting worse.

  1. Update your child’s Medication Administration Form (MAF): The MAF allows the school nurse to administer asthma medication in certain situations, such as in emergencies.

  2. Share your child’s Asthma Action Plan and MAF with their school: Be sure to give copies of the Asthma Plan and MAF to the school.

  3. Talk to your child: Help your child understand their asthma symptoms and when to ask an adult for help.

We are Here to Help

Asthma is a manageable condition. With planning, children with asthma can fully participate in school, sports, and other childhood activities. A little preparation now can mean fewer missed school days and fewer emergency room visits during the year.

At the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein, we have specialists to help you manage your child’s asthma. We are happy to work with you to prepare for school and help keep your child’s asthma under control as the Fall season and “September Asthma Peak” approaches.

Norwood Building Engulfed in Flames

1 Dead, 15 Injured After Explosion

By David Greene

Bronx Voice

August 6, 2026

BRONX, NY - Fire officials say an explosion on the second floor of a five-story building in Norwood has killed one person and injured 15 others, including 6 firefighters. Two civilians remain hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore firefighters were called to a 5-story building at 374 East 209 Street, between Decatur Avenue and Parkside Place at 12:26 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6. At a press conference held as firefighters were still battling the flames and grey smoke, Bonsignore said, "This afternoon Bronx dispatch received a call for reports of an explosion."

With first fire units arriving on the scene within three minutes of the initial call, Commissioner Bonsignore said of those units, "They found a heavy fire load and fire blowing out many, many windows."

The fire quickly engulfed a major portion of the building and firefighters pulled out of the building after an interior collapse in one of the apartments. The fire spread to five-alarms, with over 300 FDNY and EMS personnel called to the scene.

FDNY's Chief of Department John Esposito said, "As the commissioner said, there was some sort of explosion, it blew out window frames, it blew some of them across the street." He added, "When our members got up to the second floor, some of the apartment doors had been blown off the hinges."

Espositio added that the fire had spread to three floors and there was a partial collapse of one third-floor apartment into the second floor.

According to EMS Deputy Chief Stacy Scanlon, the building had 27 apartments and so far the Red Cross is assisting 18 individuals with temporary housing.

One reporter asked Bonsignore about a claim that there had been a gas smell in the area for the past month, she replied, "I'm unaware at this moment." The FDNY continues to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Bonsignore added that a local school has been opened as a "reception center" for displaced residents. Any displaced residents are urged to call the Red Cross at 1 (800) RED-CROSS.

NYC Parents Encouraged Back to School Physicals and Vaccinations Before Classes Begin

Back-to-School Health Checklist: NYC Health + Hospitals Urges Families to Schedule Physicals, Vaccines and Flu Shots Before School Starts

By Staff Reporter

Bronx Voice

August 5, 2026

NEW YORK, NY - As families prepare for the new school year, NYC Health + Hospitals is reminding parents and guardians that a healthy start begins with a visit to the pediatrician.

With New York City public schools set to open on Thursday, September 10, the city's public health system is encouraging families to schedule annual physicals, routine vaccinations, flu shots, vision and hearing screenings, and other preventive care appointments before students head back to the classroom.

Pediatric and adolescent appointments are available at NYC Health + Hospitals locations across the five boroughs at little or no cost. Families can schedule an appointment by calling 844-NYC-4NYC (844-692-4692) or booking online.

"A great school year begins with a visit to your child's pediatrician," said Dr. Katherine Piwnica-Worms, System Chief of Pediatrics at NYC Health + Hospitals.

"Regular checkups before school starts and throughout the year help keep children healthy and thriving. These visits give parents the opportunity to ask questions, receive trusted guidance, and address any physical, developmental, or mental health concerns early, helping children stay ready to learn and succeed."

Comprehensive Care for Children and Teens

NYC Health + Hospitals offers a wide range of pediatric and adolescent health services designed to support children from infancy through the teenage years.

For younger children, services include annual physicals, immunizations, flu vaccinations, asthma and diabetes screenings, nutrition counseling, obesity prevention, dental care, and mental health screenings.

Teens ages 12 and older also have access to primary care, sports physicals and injury care, sexual and reproductive health services, LGBTQIA+ care, and behavioral health support, including depression screenings and counseling.

Back-to-School Health Tips for Families

Health experts recommend taking several steps before the first day of school to help children stay healthy throughout the year:

Schedule an annual physical.

Yearly checkups help monitor growth and development while identifying potential health concerns early.

Stay current on vaccinations.

New York City requires students attending school or child care to receive age-appropriate immunizations.

Get a flu shot.

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for every child 6 months and older.

Discuss COVID-19 vaccination.

Parents should speak with their child's healthcare provider about recommended COVID-19 vaccines. Children 6 months and older should ideally be vaccinated before school or daycare begins.

Prioritize mental health.

School stress, social media, and increased screen time can affect children's emotional well-being. Families are encouraged to set healthy screen-time limits, establish social media boundaries, and have regular conversations about mental health. Teens ages 13 to 17 can also access free Talkspace online therapy, while VirtualExpressCare offers low- to no-cost virtual behavioral health services.

Don't skip vision and hearing screenings.

Routine testing can help identify issues that may affect learning and development.

Promote healthy eating habits.

Encourage children to eat more fruits and vegetables, choose whole grains, and drink water instead of sugary beverages.

Bronx Man Charged With Murder After Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest in Fatal Little Yemen Shooting

By Dave Greene

Bronx Voice

August 4, 2026

BRONX, NY - A routine traffic stop in the Bronx led to the arrest of a man now facing murder charges in connection with a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 50-year-old man in Little Yemen, investigators said.

According to police, Jose Kuilan, 47, has been charged with murder, manslaughter, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and failing to use signal lights following the fatal shooting of 50-year-old Trojan Hart on Monday morning.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man shot at approximately 6:02 a.m. on August 3, outside 672 Sagamore Street in the Van Nest section of the Bronx.

By the time officers arrived, Hart was found outside Ramos Twin Auto Sales, located at 665 Sagamore Street at the corner of Birchall Avenue in the borough's Little Yemen neighborhood.

An NYPD official said, "Police responded to a 911 call of a male shot. Upon arrival, officers observed a 50-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds about the body. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene."

Hart was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Following the shooting, detectives and patrol officers cordoned off the intersection with crime scene tape and police vehicles as investigators searched for evidence.

A severe thunderstorm moved through the area while officers processed the scene. Police reportedly covered both the victim and his moped with a large purple tarp, apparently to help preserve evidence from the rain.

Witnesses observed the victim slumped over the moped, with one leg visible beneath the tarp as investigators documented the scene.

At the time, police said no arrests had been made and described the investigation as ongoing.

Hours later, at around noon, Kuilan was stopped by officers on Eastchester Road after allegedly failing to use his turn signal during a traffic stop.

According to police, officers spotted marijuana inside the vehicle and arrested Kuilan on drug possession charges. As the investigation continued, detectives connected him to the fatal shooting earlier that morning.

He was subsequently charged with:

* Murder

* Manslaughter

* Criminal Possession of a Weapon (two counts)

* Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (two counts)

* Failure to Use Signal Lights

Police have not publicly released a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains active.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline. All tips can be provided anonymously.

50-Year-Old Man Lies Dead in the Street After Brutal Slay, Shock and Questions

BRONX, NY - Police are investigating the shooting death of a still-unidentified man who died in a hail of gunfire after apparently crashing his moped.

According to police the shooting was reported at 6:02 a.m. on Monday, August 3, outside of 672 Sagamore Street. However, the victim ended up outside of Ramos Twin Auto Sales, located at 665 Sagamore Street at the corner of Birchall Avenue in the Little Yemen section of the borough.

An NYPD official stated, “Police responded to a 911 call of a male shot.” The official continued, “Upon arrival, officers observed a 50-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds about the body. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.”

The official added that no arrests had been made and the investigation remains “ongoing.”

Detectives and police officers had the intersection blocked off by police vehicles and crime scene tape. Because of a severe thunderstorm at the time, police apparently covered the victim and his moped with a large purple tarp, likely in an effort to preserve any evidence.

The victim appeared to be slumped over the moped—with one leg sticking out from the tarp.

The identity of the victim is pending notification of family members.

By David Greene

Bronx Voice

August 2, 2026

BRONX, NY - Media outlets are reporting the death of “Sopranos” actor Vincent Pastore, who was reportedly found dead early yesterday by a neighbor on City Island.

According to an article on Deadline.com who broke the story, Pastore had not been heard from in three days, when a neighbor discovered his body.

The movie website imbd.com reported that Pastore was born in the Bronx on July 14, 1946, but in May of 2016, as Pastore was being inducted into the Bronx Walk of Fame, he told the Bronx Voice that he grew up in New Rochelle.

Deadline.com also reported that Pastore fought in the Vietnam War before graduating from Manhattan’s Pace University with a degree in drama.

Pastore’s longtime manager Robert Altman told People Magazine, “Vinny was one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known.”

Speaking at great lengths during the Bronx Walk of Fame induction ceremony in 2016, Pastore fondly recalled visiting his grandparents’ home in Belmont. He recalled his “bad business decisions’ he made when he opened a bar / restaurant that left him bankrupt and how his move to the Bronx at age 40 changed his life forever.

“I was kind of like down-and-out,” Pastore said. He continued, “I moved to the Bronx in 1987, and I took the 6-train into the city and I went on auditions.

Pastore shared how he first settled in the Morris Park section of the borough and landed some commercials, imbd.com reported his first big gig was a ‘Pepsi’ commercial in 1999, which led to at least four guest appearances on the hit-show ‘Law & Order.’

Recalling his first film role in ‘True Love,’ that he said was filmed in Morris Park, which led to other roles in ‘Good Fellas,’ ‘Awakenings,’ and Godfather lll.’

So good at playing the typical gangster, Pastore was selected to play Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero, who played the best friend to Tony Sopranos, played by the late actor James Gandolfini in the HBO hit series Sopranos. For his efforts Pastore was honored with an award from the Screen Actors Guild in 20000.

At the induction ceremony outside of the Bronx Supreme Court in 2014, Pastore beamed with pride as he said, “To be able to say to my family, hey, I’m on the Bronx Walk of Fame on the Grand Concourse!”

After the Sopranos Pastore turned to reality TV with appearances on such shows as ‘Celebrity Apprentice,’ ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ and ‘Shark Tank.’

With his success Pastore purchased a home on City Island and was often spotted walking across East 187 Street or Arthur Avenue as he visited the meat market or bakeries in the Bronx’ “Little Italy.”

On life in the Bronx, Pastore said, “I’m just really, really proud to be a part of the best borough because, and I’ve said this before, because we’re a melting pot.”

After the cover was pulled off the street sign with his name on it, Pastore was asked what role he was most proud of, he replied, “My best character was in ‘Gotti,’ because I played Angelo Ruggiero and I was able to study his walk and his persona and I worked opposite Anthony Quinn and (Armand) Assante.” He concluded, "I mean I love the Sopranos,’ but I was featured more in Gotti, and it was my breakthrough role.”

Monte Mourns one of two Separate Hit-and-Run Victims

By David Greene

Bronx Voice

July 31, 2026

BRONX, NY - Police are currently looking for a scooter rider and an SUV driver who each fled the scene in two separate but serious crashes in the borough in less than a week.

At 4:19 p.m. on July 20, officers from the 47^(th) Precinct were called to the scene of “a pedestrian struck” at the intersection of White Plains Road and East Gun Hill Road in the Olinville section of the borough.

A police official told the Bronx Voice that after a preliminary investigation, the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad, “determined that a 50-year-old female pedestrian was crossing White Plains Road from east to west within a marked crosswalk when she was struck by an unidentified individual operating an electric stand-up scooter.”

The official added that the victim was transported to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition. The scooter rider fled the scene and as of July 30, police had made no arrests in the case, and no description of the rider was available.

The Bronx Voice has since learned that the victim, Wilmary Carrion, 50, succumbed to her injuries on July 24. Carrion worked at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Montefiore Hospital.

As family, friends and co-workers were gathering at a wake for Carrion in Throgs Neck, Montefiore issued a brief statement, saying, “The Montefiore family shares its deepest condolences with the family, friends, and co-workers, and is saddened by the untimely and tragic loss.”

MOTORCYCLIST INJURED ON BRONX RIVER

Meanwhile, police are looking for an SUV driver who collided with a motorcycle rider and then fled the scene, leaving the rider on the ground and backing up traffic for miles, steps away from the Bronx Zoo.

Police were called to the southbound Bronx River Parkway at the Boston Road exit at 11:40 a.m. on July 26.

A police source said, “A 28-year-old male operator of a Yamaha motorcycle collided into the rear of an unknown SUV.” The source added, “The operator of the SUV did not remain on scene.”

The NYPD source maintained that the injured man was transported to a nearby hospital with “minor” injuries and concluded, “There is no suspect description available at this time.”

However, an FDNY official said paramedics were dispatched for a “reported motorcyclist hit by a vehicle at the location” and that the victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital with “serious” injuries.

The Bronx Voice reached out to the police source on two additional occasions to clarify the injuries of the motorcycle rider, but the source did not respond. We will continue to follow both investigations .
