Recovery timeline for 13 year old

Has anyone had experience with a 13 year old athlete recovering from a full ATFL tear?

We’re trying to understand realistic recovery timelines, especially for return to field hockey/lacrosse, PT progression, and when light stick work or sport specific drills usually begin.

Would love to hear from parents of young athletes, PTs, athletic trainers, or anyone who has been through something similar. How long did recovery take, and what helped most with healing well and avoiding reinjury?

Ankle brace with shin guards

Looking for advice. Daughter has grade 3 sprain and will need to wear a brace when she returns to FH. What works with the hard shin guards? The lace up ones her dr reccs won’t fit under the guard with the ankle support.

Daughter’s MRI results

We see the surgeon next week but my 13 year old daughter had an MRI last night. For context she is an athlete who typically trains 20+ hours a week for field hockey. She has a full tear of the ATFL ligament and to the lateral extensor retinaculum. Has anyone had this and what is typical recovery. She is recasted and just wants a timeline. They won’t give us one till we meet with the surgeon. Any information is helpful for actual recovery for kids.
