Is stethoscope very much needed ?

I am going to start college soon and i am seeing elko stethoscope ads all over my Instagram feed . So i have a doubt if stethoscope is very much needed in med school and i should buy it beforehand before college starts or should i wait for sometime and then buy it ??

Also which brand is best for stethoscope??
