First time trip to Budapest and Vienna over December - clothing recommendation.
Hi everyone! My family - my parents in their 60s and my brother and I, in our late 20s, are traveling to Budapest and Vienna from the 20th of December to the 5th of January 2027.
It’s our first time traveling to Europe over the December period. We are from South Africa, so we are most definitely not used to the kind of weather we are assuming we are going to experience. Cold for us is 16°C.
We are not skiing and will most likely to do all the touristy things because with the South African exchange rate, who knows when we’ll get a chance to visit any of these places again to see the niche part of these countries.
Can you guys provide me with some realistic and practical advice as to the kind of clothing, the weather around that time necessities? Some people are telling us we need snow boots, and thermal clothing. Someone even said to us that we could end up with frostbite - so I’m a little concerned.
I’d appreciate any advice as well as recommendations for clothing, etc.
