Does anyone know the origin of this African proverb about ancestors and direction?
Hi! I’m trying to trace the origin of a saying I came across, something along the lines of:
“Those who don’t know their ancestors will wander through life without direction.”
I have a vague memory that it might come from a specific African culture, ethnic group, or language, and that the English version may be a loose translation rather than the original wording.
Does anyone recognize this saying, or know of a similar proverb from an African language/tradition? I’m especially interested in finding the original language, wording, cultural context, and source, if possible.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated!
