I don’t understand the league’s obsession with draft picks for the Mavericks. If we sell off players it will be to good team and good teams usually don’t have good picks, 20 or lower in draft order. Then there is the getting younger players, said younger players won’t be good odds are and will very likely be off the team in a few years, so I don’t see the point. Kyrie Irving has been in the trade rumor mill for all offseason so I will use him as example. If he gets traded to Houston, for reed Shepard and two first rounders say in 28 and 30. The Rockets will still be good thanks to Amen and Sengun who will both be around 26 years old. Reed is a third overall pick yes, but for all intent and purposes he is a bust and is unlikely to get that much better Now go and do it with anyone else who wants Irving and has the assets, odds are their picks and young players won’t be good.
I also keep hearing about how young Cooper is and how players should be his age so they can grow with him. I call bull, players like Cooper usually take major leaps in their second and third years, Luka when to the playoffs in his second year losing to the clippers in 6, Dirk in his third, beating the Jazz and losing to the Spurs in 5. So assuming health, the mavs will be play off bound from here on out so young players won’t do much and the front office will inevitably get older players to try to make deep runs
P.S. the spurs got three top 5 picks in a row hence they are the outlier when it comes to youth winning
If Irving is playing up to his level consistently, missing back to backs and on time restrictions, but the mavs are at or slightly below.500 are you willing to trade him for young talent/ picks. Personally I don’t want because selfishly I want to win and get into the playoffs. development can go kick rocks in my opinion. How about you guys what are your thoughts
I am curious. I was going back the 2025 draft and I kept hearing that cooper’s superpower was his defense, that he was highly disruptive, great help side shot blocker, endless motor and all that. I know dude had a mountain of offensive responsibilities in year one. Outside of a diagram I saw of him being a ridiculous rim protector which I can’t seem to find, when I watched him he a welming defender and got some cool blocks. Am I missing something?

In June the Dallas mavericks are hoisting the nba trophy. Cooper is jubilant and Kyrie is holding finals mvp, the whole team is saying “everyone thought we years away.” And so on. How would you guys be feeling I would of course be happy go to the parade and everything, how would you guys feel
Just throwing it out there. What if that pick actually is a top 3 pick. I would be ecstatic of course, at that point cooper will be going into year 5 hopefully with a few all nba appearances and 4 all stars as well. What would you think if 2029 rolls around and the mavs are back in the top three.
I think Cooper will have to legit be an all nba first teamer, Kyrie is back like he never left from day one. Zac, will have to show consistent play worthy of a number one pick. 2 of the other new guy will have to hit big, for instance Biberovic will have to be shoot 40% plus on like 7 a game and Larry has to average 8 assists a game with decent shooting and driving.
I truly have drunk the Powerade. From the two games without Nemhard Larry was a sublime passer. With this team’s deficit of play making I truly think given real time Sergio will averaged a double double. Here’s my reasoning, we have tons of play finishers including Cooper and Kyrie are excellent play finishers. As we saw with Luka this team is best with a lobber guard which Larry is, and we know have a good amount of shooting too.
I personally think assuming Irving plays 65 games and Lively finally stays healthy. Larry is generally good and tarik biberovic is the shooter that every scout thinks he. Cooper takes an all nba 2nd team leap, that they will back a 4 seed and make it to the conference finals shocking the thunder or spurs on the way
