Connections
There’s a lot of connections that I’m going to be making so please bear with me.
Notice the flashing lights and the lighter throughout the second half of the family ties video is recreated later in the opening of the Not Like Us video during the Squabble Up verse. (I also included scenes from the family ties video that appear to be the farm and airliner on a specific ranch that I previously made a post about)
Okay… on to the lyrical connections.
Kendrick mentions a warning of the button being pressed and the ambulance coming on family ties, then directly connects that to Not Like Us via the ambulance line on top of the visual connections telling us that the button has been pushed.
The next connection I honestly am not too sure of but it’s worth pointing out all of the France lyrics. Keem specifically mentions on France freestyle that he needs his money alongside the mention of France, then on family ties reminds us of this also alongside the France lyric. Kendrick mentions the Louvre at the Super Bowl. Of course the classic Jay and Ye record too. Again, I’m not confident in the overall tie in with France.
On to Anita Baker lyrics. This one is actually pretty direct in my opinion, but if you think I have it wrong please tell me.
Of course Kendrick mentions Anita Baker playing in his GNX on wacced out murals, then we heard Tyler mention Anita Baker playing through the speakers in his car. But I suggest everyone go back and listen to these next two. Smile by Jay and Going in for Life by Drake. More Anita baker in the car, but the lyrics paint a picture of the difference between Drake and Jay. I think Kendrick and Tyler are referencing that picture.
Last one I’ll leave you with is the last verse from hood politics. I feel it’s a good closer that ties the button in full circle imo.
