Is anyone on PrEP for SPD?

I don’t know if I’m overthinking but it’s my first time working in a hospital and I am considering going on PrEP. Obviously you want to avoid any pokes that could cause contracting a communicable disease but stuff happens.

Especially with the new twice a year shot I feel like it’s probably worth it to reduce the odds of contracting HIV or just to have peace of mind.

Has anyone else thought about it? Have you started PrEP for sterile processing? Please share your thoughts / experiences!

Edit: Okay you guys can stop commenting plz!!!! I don’t care if I’m being dramatic or if you’re brave enough to grab dirty instruments with your teeth or whatever. Ur all such strong SPD soldiers good 4 u

I’m on the Volunteer Organizing Committee for Solvita’s Potential Union

Although it’s true that Solvita laid off ~40 employees (I think it’s closer to 35), only a portion of them were supporters of the union or organizers themselves. When talking with coworkers, I noticed an overwhelming pattern among the employees laid off with no notice: a lot of people with attendance issues, people that had been there for years and were at the top of the pay scale, and union supporters. The people fired made “too much”, spoke candidly about their gripes with the company, or had to call off more than others due to disability, their kids, and unpredictable life events. There were, of course, a handful of kind, average, and union unaware employees, as well as one vocally anti-union person with a disciplinary record, laid off. It seems to a lot of us that they got rid of employees they really didn’t like, unrelated to union involvement, and made sure there was no way to establish a pattern of discrimination.

For years, it has been common for training techs to have to explain, “People break a lot of rules to go faster and meet demand, but it’ll only get you fired if you complain or call off too much.” I think their inconsistent application of policies is part of the reason the idea of a union gained so much traction so quickly. On top of the rampant favoritism and nepotism, people see the dollars they waste before they turn around and tell you they can’t afford to give you a 50¢ raise or better healthcare premiums.
They are constantly throwing bread and circus events for employees, promoting company sponsored sports betting pools (with winnings larger than some of our paychecks), and footing fancy dinner bills for committees or large travel bills for the C-suite. Some even say the CEO’s primary residence is in Florida.

Here’s a timeline that some might find interesting…

-January-ish: “Oh shoot we lost a contract. Hiring freeze effective now.”
-A week later: “Oops, never mind haha we are hiring again.”
-May 19th: Lay offs all day, one by one. People getting pulled into meetings and not coming back. A lot of Traditional and CS techs, they’re told it’s due to rising costs and low demand for their position.
June 15th: “Oops haha guys we are hiring again.”

What does that seem like to you? To me, it seems like the goal of the lay-off was to bring in cheaper labor and remind those of us asking for better pay and treatment that they view us as disposable.

The energy at Solvita has become so dark and heavy following the lay-off and the Reddit post from weeks ago. We cannot let their cruel decisions grind us down. Unionization is the best path to a better work place, and we need everyone’s help to achieve this.
