DDN (Datadirect Network) in production: what’s it actually like to live with day to day?

Been reading up on DDN (EXAScaler / Infinia / the AI400X appliances) and can't find much natural info, trying to separate the benchmark slides from reality. Hoping some folks who actually run it can chime in.

Mostly curious about the stuff you only learn after a year or two of owning something:

  • Support. When something breaks at 2am, what happens? Do you reach someone who actually knows Lustre/the platform, or is there a lot of “please send logs and wait”? How’s the onsite field engineer side vs. remote? Any difference depending on region?
  • Upgrades and fixes. Are code upgrades a non-event or a planned weekend with crossed fingers? How quickly do they turn around bugs once you’ve proven it’s on their end? Drive/controller swaps, smooth or painful?
  • Overall verdict. Is it a solid product outside of the big HPC/AI showcase deployments? Is it complex to manage day to day without a dedicated Lustre person?
  • Versus the others. If you’ve run or seriously evaluated VAST, Everpure, WEKA, or anything else alongside it, how did DDN stack up? Where does it clearly win, and where would you pick something else?
  • Thinking of switching? If you’re on another platform and DDN is on your radar, what’s pushing you to look? Hitting a performance wall, support frustrations, pricing at renewal, or something else? And what’s holding you back from making the move?

Not looking for vendor or reseller input, please, and no DMs pitching alternatives. Just want honest takes from admin users and engineers, good or bad. Horror stories welcome too.

Thanks in advance.

Considering VAST Data for enterprise scale-out, would love to hear real-world feedback

My team is currently looking into modernizing our storage architecture and VAST Data is on our short list. We have some heavy read-intensive and analytics workloads coming down the pipeline and need something that scales well.

Right now, VAST is leading the pack for us due to their unique Disaggregated Shared-Everything (DASE) architecture and strong capacity savings. That said, we are completely open to other suggestions if there are better alternatives we should be evaluating.

Please note: I am strictly looking for honest feedback from hands-on admins and engineers. If you are a sales rep or VAR, please skip this post, I do not want sales pitches or DMs.

Before we move forward with getting a demo, I wanted to do some sanity checking here and get some unvarnished opinions from current or past users.

Specifically, I’d love to know:

  • The Support Experience: How is the support model in practice, are there remote/onsite support? When you open a ticket, do you get knowledgeable engineers right away, or does it take a while to get past Level 1?
  • Troubleshooting & Patching: Do software updates go smoothly? How do they handle bug fixes or hardware replacements in the field?
  • Real-World Pros/Cons: Does the platform perform as advertised for large datasets? Is there anything you wish you knew about the architecture before you committed?

Would appreciate any insight, warnings, or experiences you can share (even via DM if you prefer to stay completely anonymous).

Thanks in advance!

Our security team is currently evaluating Zscaler as part of a broader infrastructure refresh, and it's sitting at the top of our shortlist. Before we commit, I wanted to get some real-world perspective from people who've actually used it in production, not the sales deck version.

Specifically curious about the post-sales experience: how responsive and technically capable is their support team day-to-day? If you've worked with a TAM or CSM, was that relationship genuinely useful or more of a check-in-and-disappear situation? What are their responsibilities and day-to-day work? Also, product stability and real-world UX would be great to hear about too. Does it genuinely feel enterprise-ready, or are there rough edges once you're in the weeds?

Lastly, if you don't mind sharing, what other vendors or products are in your environment (whether that's networking gear, storage, security appliances, cloud platforms, anything really), and which of those support teams has genuinely impressed you? Trying to build a realistic picture of where Zscaler stands relative to the wider vendor landscape, not just on paper. Honest takes welcome - good and bad.

Thanks!
