How can I get health insurance in Houston, TX as a DACA recipient before nursing school deadline?
Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can guide me because I’m a bit overwhelmed with my situation.
I live in Houston, TX and I’m a DACA recipient. I’m starting nursing school and I was just told I need to provide proof of health insurance by July 31st.
Right now I don’t have any coverage, but my spouse just started a new job and their employer insurance will kick in—but not until about 60 days from now, which is after my deadline.
I’m trying to figure out what my options are in the meantime. I’ve been looking but I’m getting confused about what I actually qualify for as a DACA recipient in Texas.
A few questions I have:
Can DACA recipients in Texas get health insurance through the Marketplace (HealthCare.gov)?
Are short-term health insurance plans actually accepted as proof for nursing school clinical requirements?
Is there any temporary coverage I can get just to meet the school deadline?
Has anyone been in a similar situation and what did you do?
My main goal is just to have valid proof of insurance by July 31st so I don’t lose my spot in the program.
Any advice or experiences would really help. Thank you so much in advance.
