G’day everyone,

I’m looking at starting a substation apprenticeship and wanted to hear from people who are already working in the industry.

The two things I’m most interested in are:
• What does a typical day or week actually look like? What sort of work are you doing day to day as an apprentice, and how does that change once you’re qualified?
• What’s the career progression and realistic earning potential? I’m not looking for exact figures—just what’s achievable after qualifying and getting a few years’ experience in substations.

I’d also be interested in hearing:
• What surprised you most about the job?
• What do you enjoy most and least?
• If you were starting again, would you still choose substations?
