Considering Coast Guard Reserve DC at 29 — looking for honest experiences

I’m 29 and live in Brooklyn, NYC. I’m seriously considering the Coast Guard Reserve and would appreciate honest insight from current or former members, especially anyone in the Damage Controlman rate.
Few questions
What is the quality of life
Do DCs fabricate replacement parts, or is most of the work inspections, training and maintaining damage-control equipment?
How often are Reserve DCs activated or sent away for extended periods?
Outside of initial training, how often do you get to see your partner, family and other loved ones?

it’s so hard to find work!

I’m 29 years old in nyc, looking for a career in ironwork . I’ve only been welding for a year and graduated from apex tech school. I also have a year of carpentry experience. But it seems like every job wants 5+ years. I feel so stuck and been applying to 20+ jobs a day
How did you score your first job? I need some advice and tips
