Feel like i’m shifting incorrectly
I bought my Dax yesterday and got to ride it for the first time today. I had a blast, and took it to a parking lot to try to get used to everything as this is my first real two wheel experience aside from bicycles when i was a kid.
My only hesitation right now, is i feel like i’m shifting incorrectly, and i’m worried i’ll damage the transmission on my bike somehow, which honestly feels me with dread as this is the most fun i’ve had in a long time. I feel like sometimes i shift too early/too late, and other times i completely miss the lever, especially when trying to upshift using the heel portion of the shift lever which i feel like is the easiest way for me to do it as i have trouble fitting my toes under the toe portion.
I also feel like when i downshift, the bike lurches a lot and it sounds like i’ve got crazy high rpm’s for a second or two after. i’ve tried “blipping” the throttle as i downshift but i don’t think i’m doing it right.
Finally, when going up hills, i feel like i creep to a halt as i crest them- do i just need to continually apply the throttle the whole time? is there a specific gear i should be in she going uphill? the area which i live (WV, US) is very hilly so before i take it on the road proper i want to make sure i have the right idea
Anyone have any tips or tricks? is this just new rider jitters?
TL;DR i am new and have no idea what i’m doing when it comes to shifting or hills, please help
EDIT: I figured it out, just took some practice and i listened to the advice here. I’m having a great time now!
