Google Maps v Bike Computer
I’m currently on a fixie and use it to go on longer rides 25-40miles a few times a week. I have a bike bag that holds my phone that I use Google Maps for navigation and Strava to track everything else. Everywhere else I see posts about how great bike computers are but they all seem to be great for long rides but are they any good for navigating the city day to day and re-routing if I go down the wrong street?
I understand the battery issues with having my phone always on, and risking the actual camera on my phone but I’ve been doing this for years and while it’s been working fine (aside from draining my battery early on in the day) does the computer do just as good a job as Google Maps?
Please share bike computer recs or things I should look out for too if you’re reading this!
