This version is in beta and relies on my other project I named pantheon (the control panel) (working on making it standalone TerraFirma to release to you guys) but please look at where it is now and give me feedback thank you !

starwheel - see the stars in your terminal

npx starwheel

Hi guys so I’ve always been an astronomy nerd and I wondered if I could find something where I could see real time stars in the terminal, I couldn’t find anything sufficient so I built one myself. Really fun project to do and I hope you guys have as much fun using it as I did building it.

Update on what I’ve called TerraFirma v1

The repo is at github.com/igfray/terrafirma it’d make my day for someone to test it out in a sandboxed environment and give me feedback

TerraFirma is a GNOME Shell extension that draws the real night sky over your wallpaper.
It computes the actual positions of ~5000 stars, the constellations, the Milky Way, the Moon (with correct phase), the planets (including Jupiter’s moons and Saturn’s rings), and meteor showers for your exact location and the current time. Everything moves correctly as Earth turns.
Hold Super and drag to look around. It pauses automatically when a maximised window is open so it costs almost nothing while you work

Hey guys so I’ve built this gnome extension and just wanted to see what the community thinks. The constellations are based on time and location.
