Perch and ‘Merica

Got a couple hours in before 4th of July beach day. Was hoping for Corbina but settled on a trough filled with perch. No monsters but got 8 and my son got 2. He was pumped to get on some fish after a few skunks.

Crushing it

Caught this monster today in the surf. Hahaha I’ll take what I can. Thankful the little dude kept the skunk off.

Short sessions, short fish

Got a couple quick sessions in lately. Seal beach pier on that big tide we had. Little Croakers were feisty for about 30 minutes then nothing. Grabbed the 15” halibut near the aquarium. Was pumped on that nice little birthday treat post aquarium visit. 1/8 oz underspin with 3” white paddle tail for the Hali. All released.

“Caught” Some Rays

Fished the surf Friday morning. Stepped on a bunch of rays fortunately didn’t get stung. Was throwing the Carolina rig with a gulp sandworm for no takers. Did manage to snag a tiny round ray. Swapped to the LC 110 and ended up snagging a 19” butterfly ray. I’ve caught plenty of bat rays, thornbacks and round rays but this was my first butterfly ray. Both boys were released. Slow day. Ton of sand crab beds out there and saw a corbina on my way out. That might be the goal this summer.

Finally got a surf session in. Haven’t been fishing much with the youngest boy being born last year. But finally getting a little more time in. Yellowfin croaker on the Lucky Craft splash minnow 110. Incoming tide at sunset beach. First catch on my okuma rockaway sp 10’ m+. 20 pound J braid and 12 pound fluro leader. Lost another what felt like a halibut from old hooks. Was pretty chilly after 1.5 hours in the water so headed home.
