First days at home

Hi everyone. I’ve had my skink for eleven days now. At first, he explored the terrarium a lot; an hour after arriving, he went through a shed that went well. He even climbed onto my hand of his own accord. He’s just under four months old and was eating his meals eagerly. Four days ago, he burrowed into the Lignocel substrate and hasn't wanted to come out since. He hisses when I speak to him. He ate a large meal right before burrowing. I know this is a time when he needs to adjust at his own pace and I should leave him be, but I’m still worried that he hasn't come out for so long. The spot where he burrowed is near the heat lamp, so he’s warm; the temperature is 38.5°C at the hotspot, and it doesn't drop below 24°C on the cool side. How long did your skinks stay hidden the first time?

Show us what your terrariums for the northern skink look like. I'm looking for inspiration.

I'd like to read your comments on this topic, what's worth adding and what's not. Thank you.

photo for attention, not mine.

Snail massage 🐌

Do you think snails might like a massage? While petting this one, I noticed its movements slowed down. The moment I stop petting, it goes back to its business, speeding up a bit. It does not hide its tentacles or run away from the touch. Do yours do this too?

Sorry for the dirty hands. This is coconut substrate. I promise my hands were wet.

My African giant snail just turned one year old! 🐌🎉

Watching him grow and explore has been such a rewarding experience. His diet consists mainly of vegetables and herbs, with fruit as an occasional treat.
Of course, calcium carbonate too.

Happy Birthday, Dyzio! 🐌💚

Snail salad 🌿🐌

Today, Dyzio is eating radish leaves, sweet peppers, nectarines, and zucchini. And of course, cuttlefish.
