How Titan ruined my 10 year anniversary and proposal ring - twice, and maybe forever

I normally wouldn't write a post like this, but this has been one of the most disappointing purchase experiences I've had, especially given what this ring was meant to represent.

I bought a ring from Beyon (House of Titan) in Mumbai for my proposal and our 10-year relationship anniversary. I didn't negotiate or try to optimise for price since I wanted a premium, seamless experience for something we would hopefully keep for the rest of our lives.
To give credit where it is due, the sales team was excellent throughout; polite, responsive and genuinely eager to help. Unfortunately, almost everything involving the actual craftsmanship has been the exact opposite and nothing less than a nightmare.

I asked for our anniversary date to be engraved inside the ring. The correct date was provided by me to the sales team, and subsequently communicated correctly for engraving (they showed me that they had provided the correct date). The ring came back with the wrong year engraved on it :)

Obviously, for a 10-year anniversary and a proposal ring, an incorrect anniversary date was extremely disappointing given the sentimental value of the event. I immediately raised it. The store spoke to the relevant team and I was told that correcting the engraving was a 10–20 minute job. The only meaningful time involved would be transit of roughly 3 days and I was assured it could be corrected before my proposal. Based on that assurance, I sent the ring back. Three days later, I was told they had miscalculated. Apparently, the ring needed to go elsewhere and the correction would actually take around two weeks.

This was particularly frustrating because I had deliberately purchased the ring well in advance precisely to leave enough buffer for any unforeseen issue. Yet an error that wasn't mine, followed by an incorrect commitment on the turnaround time, meant that I ultimately had to go ahead with my proposal with a ring carrying the wrong anniversary year.

I was then asked to use the ring for the occasion and return it afterwards so they could correct it properly. Fine. After the anniversary/proposal, I handed it back.

At no point was I told that "correcting" the engraving would mean materially changing its appearance or that the final result would look anything like this. The attached photo shows the abomination of an engraving that they came up with after two weeks. This is what I received after waiting another 2–2.5 weeks.

Instead of the discreet, elegant engraving you would expect inside a ring, the date is now in a large, conspicuous black font. Worse, even this has been executed poorly with parts of characters appear cut off / uneven. Look closely at the 5 and 9 in the photograph. Also the entire thing is top aligned instead of being in the middle and while it may not show in the photograph, the engraving is comically larger than what should be and what is compared to other engravings in the ring - hallmark and other compulsory text. Looks like someone who wanted to leave home at 5 pm picked this up at 4:58 pm, did this engraving in 2 mins and called it a day
I genuinely struggle to understand how this passed any form of quality control.

One engraving error can happen. But what followed was a chain of completely avoidable failures:
Wrong date engraved despite the correct date being communicated

- Incorrect assurance about how quickly their own mistake could be rectified and hence missing the timeline for literally once in my lifetime occassion
- No warning that the proposed correction would materially alter the appearance of the engraving
- More than two weeks of waiting, only to receive the workmanship shown in the photograph

Apparently no one looking at the finished ring and asking whether this was an acceptable product to return to a customer

That's the part that bothers me most. This wasn't just jewellery. It was supposed to be a permanent memento of a proposal and a 10-year relationship. Instead, what should have been one of my most sentimental purchases has become an exhausting exercise in getting one mistake after another corrected.

And this is precisely why I chose a Titan brand in the first place. When you're buying something this important, you're paying not merely for the metal and stone but for the expectation of craftsmanship, quality control and trust that comes with the name.
The sales staff have tried to help throughout, and I don't want their efforts to get lost in this. But there is only so much a good front-end team can do when the workmanship and quality control behind the product fail repeatedly.

I would genuinely like someone senior at Titan/Beyond to look at the attached photograph and tell me: is this considered acceptable craftsmanship for a ring sold under the Titan name?

I don't know whether this engraving can even be repaired cleanly anymore without further damaging or altering the ring. And honestly, with the number of trips that I have made to the store in the last month or two, I am too tired to even try one more time.

TL;DR: Bought a proposal ring from Beyon by House of Titan for our 10-year anniversary and proposal. Despite being given the correct date, they engraved the wrong year. I was assured it could be fixed before the proposal, only to be told later it would take two weeks - forcing me to propose with the wrong date on the ring. Returned it afterwards for correction and, 2+ weeks later, received it with the ugly, oversized black engraving shown in the photo, with even the characters poorly finished. Great sales team, but shockingly poor craftsmanship and quality control for something that was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase.
