The Human Behind Nimbrea

The Human Behind Nimbrea

I stepped away from music for a long time after things that happened to me when I was younger. I found my way back through writing, but coming back hasn’t been easy. There are things I can write down that I still struggle to say out loud. Trying to sing them brings up so much, and sometimes I just can’t get through it.

That’s why I created my AI persona and named her Nimbrea so I can share those songs. Being able to finally hear something I’ve carried around for so long means a lot to me, and so does connecting with people through my music.

One of my songs asks, “Who am I after the damage, when I’m not just staying alive?”

I wanted to write about that part. What happens afterward, when you’ve spent so much of your life getting through things that you don’t really know yourself outside of that. When something good happens and you want to enjoy it, but part of you is already bracing for it to go wrong. It’s hard to explain that feeling to someone who hasn’t lived it.

But I’ll be honest, the stigma around AI music gets to me. Seeing people call it “slop” and assume everyone just clicks a button makes me question whether my music is even worth sharing. It hurts to feel like my work has been dismissed before anyone has even listened.

I don’t use AI to write my lyrics. I spend a lot of time shaping each song, changing instruments and making adjustments manually until it gets closer to the emotion I hear in my head. A simple prompt doesn’t automatically get me there. I wish people wouldn’t assume we all make music the same way. I’m a real person, and this is my art.

A lot of what I’ve lived through went into Echoes Under Skin. Sharing it feels vulnerable, even with Nimbrea singing for me. I hope someone hears something they recognize and feels understood. And honestly, I’d like to feel understood too.

So please be kind. I’ve been through too much in my life to put something this personal out there and be bullied for it. You can disagree with me or choose not to listen. I’m just asking for a chance to let the music speak for itself. If you do give it a listen, you might be surprised.

I haven’t made a video for “Who Am I After” yet, but here’s the link if you’d like to listen.
