Divinity 2 launcher problem

FIXED! See comments.

Anyone else had this problem with Divinity Original Sin 2?

I have been playing for weeks, even last night, with zero problems.

As of today this happens. (See video)

I can click for Baldurs Gate and Divinity 1, but Divinity 2 stays black with no option to play.

Edit: this is also the case in Desktop mode. Different proton versions did not seem to solve it.

Help me find my Linux distro!

I've been using SteamOS on my custom build PC for a little over a week now and I've come to the realisation that I might need a different distro instead.

What do I want (to use it for)?

  • I'm a complete noob with Linux and coding. So something I can't fuck up but still learn along the way would be perfect. So a good info base would also be nice in case I run into problems.
  • I prefer KDE style over Gnome style. I've used both Windows and Mac for a long time and just prefer something closer to Windows or a combo of the two.
  • I've got my eye on: Fedora, Bazzite, Mint. but open for anything.
  • Gaming! For now I only use Steam, no other stores. But gaming is what this PC is for. (Small indie games, but also big graphic heavy games. No competitive games)
  • Livingroom set up. Which might change in the future, might also not.
  • Small daily things like checking mail, browsing the web, watching YouTube, and occasional Libre Office use.
  • Edit photos. (I know adobe is not possible, but I'm happy to be able to use an alternative program)
  • Control my PC fans and RGB lights and insight in my PC.

Things that I ran into with SteamOS that I hope won't run into with another distro, or at least find easy solution for in another distro:

  • Wifi and Bluetooth problem
  • Sound problem
  • Freeze problem when opening certain tabs in Game mode
  • Monitor (tv) problem during set up, and later during desktopmode which i solved.
  • Can be slow between Game and Desktop mode
  • Very slow starting up, but this is probably a connection problem with my tv.
  • Hdd was unfindable for the first days. Later found it, but was too afraid to format it after all other problems I ran into.

Set up:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 4,7 GHz (5,2 GHz Turbo Boost) socket AM5 processor
  • ASUS PRIME Radeon RX 9070 XT OC
  • MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI socket AM5
  • Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5-6000 (2x 16 GB)
  • Samsung 9100 PRO 2 TB SSD + Seagate BarraCuda 2 TB HDD
  • TV (used as monitor): LG oled55cx6la
  • Dp to hdmi cable with 8k@60Hz

Thanks if you read this far! :)

After a week of using, bugs I found and need solved

Before you read, I'm a PC and Linux noob. And it's long post, sorry.

I’ve been using SteamOs on my new custom build PC for a little over a week now. But I am very much doubting my decision, as I keep running into problems.

Maybe this amazing subreddit can help me find solutions or point me in the right direction?

Here some specs of my new PC, and below the problems I have run into so far.

PC specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 4,7 GHz (5,2 GHz Turbo Boost) socket AM5 processor
  • ASUS PRIME Radeon RX 9070 XT OC
  • MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI socket AM5
  • Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5-6000 (2x 16 GB)
  • Samsung 9100 PRO 2 TB SSD + Seagate BarraCuda 2 TB HDD
  • TV (used as monitor): LG oled55cx6la (used before with a PS5 and as a tv, never had problems)

Problems that I have run into:

  • Monitor (tv) did not work with installation. Had to use separate computer screen, that I was lucky to have somewhere in storage. (Probably a problem from my tv, but didn't expect to run into it as steamOS is used on the SteamMachine as a console experience)
  • WiFi didn't work with the installation, and STILL doesn’t work. Tried to connect during the installation set up and the desktop mode during set up but couldn’t get it to work. Eventually got it fixed by using a ethernet cable. Which I was also lucky to have laying around. To this day I still have no wifi working!
  • After i got through the installation my tv finally showed image! Happy me. But only in Game mode and not Desktop mode. I tweaked and tried and did things with settings and the other monitor connected. It didn't seem to work, until the next day it suddenly did. So what setting(s) made it work? No idea.
  • Bluetooth works shit. Mouse connects and works. Keyboard connects and drops out immediately. Controller connects but is so laggy that it looks like it continuously drops out and reconnects. Luckily I had 2.4G dongles laying around to use them. But shouldn't both bluetooth and wifi work?!
  • Upon turning on the PC it takes 30 sec for my tv to show image. I never see the intro video, because it connects so slowly. I thought there was supposed to be a super quick on/off thing with steamOS. Or maybe there is something wrong with my set up?
  • Only my ssd was showed in the game mode storage tap. My hdd was nowhere to be found. Until I found it in the Desktop mode in the KDE partition manager. I still had to format it, but I was so tired of things not working that I left it for what it was for now. Then yesterday it suddenly my hdd did show up in my storage tap in game mode, with a simple button to format it. I haven't tried this yet, but why wasn't this the case before?
  • Sound does not always work. Sometimes I have to restart to get sound to work. Why? I don't know and it's quite annoying. (speakers are connected to my tv)

What does work well? With all the work around I can game and do what I want to do. But it feels like I'm using a broken machine instead of a very new PC. I don't mind some tweaking, I love that I don't have the windows bloat, but these bugs and tweaks feel wrong?

So now I'm wondering...should I just switch to Bazzite or Windows? Or is there something wrong with my set up. Because I feel like all these things SHOULD be working, and most of all I'm wondering what other problems are still hidden away.

Where to find my hdd and ssd?

This might be the noobest noob question out there.

Where can I find my ssd and hdd in Dolphin? How can I save files on either one and then find them back?

More info:

I just got my new PC, with both a ssd and hdd. And installed SteamOS on the ssd (as far as I know).

I got the ssd for the OS and games, and I wanted the hdd for just normal files. However I can't really seem to find out where to find what, and to make sure this goes the way I want it to.

Thank you to anyone that can point me in the right direction :)

Desktop mode won't work on tv

Hey everyone, here I am again. Fun times. Haha

I've been installing SteamOS since yesterday, faced a few problems but it's working now!

BUT...desktop mode will not work.

I'm using my LG OLED (oled55cx6la) as a screen, game mode works perfectly but as soon as I switch to desktop mode my screen stops working.

Does anyone have a solution?

I've tried:

- change display resolution to auto and non auto

- enable external display safe mode. (For some reason this disabled itself again after restarting the computer)

- try to use Steam link on my tablet to change resolution. But steam link won't let the cursor click on things.

- system update channel is at stable. Maybe beta works?

- to add: I've connected a second screen (monitor) and that works. Trying to adjust the resolution to both, but still nothing on my tv.

Wifi problem during SteamOS set up

Hey everyone,

I received my new PC and I am installing SteamOS on it as we speak.

I've gotten until the set up menu where you select language, time zone and then have to connect to wifi for an update.

However my very good wifi just doesn't work. It connects but it's somehow so bad that it does not want to do the update that is required.

(On my other devices I have no wifi problem right now)

I've been at it for 1.5 hours now.

Has anyone else come across this problem? And maybe knows what's up?

Help with choice to go for SteamOS

Hey everyone,

Just like a lot of other people I've made the choice to build my own PC instead of getting a Steammachine.

But I'm an absolute noob in the field of PCs. I've played games on my PlayStation and my Steamdeck, and aside from that only had laptops since windows XP and MacBooks since 2011.

I was sold on getting SteamOS on my new PC, but now I'm reading so many things about hardware not working with it or the HDMI input and all, that I'm not even sure if this is the smart choice for me.

- See the photo for what PC build I plan to get. (sorry for the Dutch language in there)

- I'm known with steamOS through the Steamdeck.

- the PC is going to be a livingroom PC, connected to my LG OLED tv. So not a gaming monitor.

- I've never installed an operating system on a PC before.

- Again, I'm a complete noob, maybe I'm better off with windows? But I hate the bloat of all the windows shit that I will never use.

- Aside for gaming the PC will only be used for small things like email, web browsing and watching some videos or so.

Can this community provide me with some encouragement or wise words? And please be straightforward if this is not a good idea and when I should just go with Windows instead.

Thank you!
