Its a good thing that rap isn’t charting as much
As compared to the 2010s and early 2020s rap music has been less successful in terms of dominating the charts. There is obviously many massive rappers that still release big albums but the number has decreased. This may indicate to some that rap isn’t dying, but i think it is thriving, it just mainstream rap that is dying.
I think as rap has splitting so many branches, such as rage, ukug, lyrical, dmv, pop rap, ect, people have started to choose their personal favourite kind of rap rather than just listening to whatever is popular (although some popular rap is still great). The reason that so many branches of rap now have their medium size dedicated fanbases is because it is so much easier to find small/ medium artists with social media, and is so much more accessible to release music, especially on soundcloud.
This means that people aren’t restricted in what kind of rap to listen to so the most popular rap won’t be as dominant.
