Selling: A Rock That Crossed an International Border - Manas River, Assam
I found this rock at Narayanguri, near Manas National Park, Assam.
It was lying quietly in the shallow waters of the Manas River, probably after spending a considerable portion of its existence being abused by geography.
The Manas is no ordinary river. Its waters come down from the mountains of Bhutan, cross an international boundary, enter Assam, pass through the landscape of Manas, and eventually continue their journey toward the Brahmaputra.
Somewhere along that journey, this particular piece of stone was separated from the mountains.
It travelled.
It was carried by water.
It was thrown against other rocks.
It was buried under sediment.
It was exposed again.
For years, perhaps centuries, the river worked on it, grinding its sharp edges away, carving its surface, and slowly giving it the shape you see today.
And then, after surviving the Himalayas, monsoons, forests, floods and an international border...
I picked it up and brought it home. Now I am offering this extraordinary geological traveller to a new owner.
