I said yes to watering my neighbors' plants when she went away. Six years later I am somehow part of the gardening committee.
This is a story.
It all started with a favor.
My neighbor was going on vacation. She asked me if I could water her plants.
I said course no problem because it seemed easy.
She had six plants to water.
I thought to myself this is not a deal.
When my neighbor came home, she thanked me and gave me a bag of tomatoes from her garden.
A few months went by. Then she asked me if I could help her move a flowerpot.
Then she asked me which of her plants looked healthier.
After that she started sending me pictures of leaves and asking me questions like:
Does this leaf look normal to you?
I had no idea what I was doing.
I was looking up the answers on the internet just before I responded to her.
A lot on time passed.
Week end I got a message from someone I had never met before.
The message said: Hi my neighbor said you are the person to ask about the community garden.
I was surprised when I saw this message on my phone.
It seems that my neighbor thought I was qualified to be part of the gardening committee because.
I did not kill her six plants.
Now I have a key to the garden shed.
We have meetings to attend.
We even have spreadsheets to keep track of things.
Someone recently asked me to be a judge for a tomato competition.
The problem is that I do not even like to eat tomatoes.
All I did was water six plants one time.
Somehow, I now have a career, in gardening.
