Why we need a National Commission on UK electoral reform
I've written a piece for The Loop (ECPR) discussing the case for establishing a National Commission on Electoral Reform before any major changes to the UK's voting system.
The article argues that:
• First Past the Post is facing growing criticism over disproportional outcomes.
• Concerns about the relationship between electoral systems and populist parties deserve serious consideration.
• Constitutional change should be based on broad democratic legitimacy rather than rushed legislation.
I'm interested in hearing arguments from supporters of both FPTP and PR.
