I recently finished this hand-drawn dotwork interpretation of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring.
The entire piece was created by hand using ink and thousands of individual dots!!
This piece took a lot of patience and time to complete, and I really wanted to capture the character of the original while giving it my own visual language through stippling.

Started as random burn marks from a cigarette, then I tried to turn the chaos into something more defined with a pencil!!

Now I can’t unsee certain shapes in it.

Started as random burn marks from a cigarette, then I tried to turn the chaos into something more defined with a pencil..👌🏼

Was just messing around while smoking and started pressing the cigarette tip onto paper, letting the burn and smoke create random shapes!!

At some point I started seeing forms in it, so I went in with a pencil and tried to bring them out.

Didn’t really have a plan, just followed whatever was already there..
