Forensic Acute Assessments

I was wondering if anyone would be happy to share how acute forensic assessments work in their area, or even be able to share any publicly available policies?

To be more specific, I'm referring to mental health act assessments for the gravest of offences: for example, person with history of psychotic illness has stabbed someone, arrested for attempted murder, now in police custody and they want a mental health act assessment. Who does it go to? What pathway does it follow? What are the responsibilities of the general adult on call team and the forensic team?

In our area there has been years worth of back and forth over this issue, trying to go back to the drawing board and agree a solution that is workable for everyone.
