Discussion on how easy or difficult was for the following non-filmy background actresses to get their first important character driven role

Discussion on how easy or difficult was for the following non-filmy background actresses to get their first important character driven role

For Preity Zinta in Sangharsh, I would say the competition against filmy background contemporaries like Rani, Kajol and Kareena was less compared to the privileges which Ananya Pandey and Janhvi are getting today in Bollywood.

For Priyanka Chopra, as far as I heard, many were recommending her not to play villain in start of career but she did choose the role.

For Vidya Balan, Parineeta, her debut bollywood film was itself responsible to catch the eyes of directors and so she was part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

For Deepika Padukone, she was getting the highlight in RK controversy and to some extent she was good in OSO, for which LAK happened with her.

For Anushka Sharma, she was going on the path which later Vaani Kapoor chose but that Band Baaja Baraat was the game changer and this proves YRF had the confidence to select her to play Shruti.

For Kriti Sanon, she acted in BKB but main thing is we never expected that her character would also draw the attention even though Rajkumar was the main attraction.

What do you think on this ?

Favourite year of an actress according to you where they delivered multiple popular movies ( atleast 4 ) in a year in the last 30 years

According to me, it would be Preity Zinta in 2003, Vidya in 2007, Rani in 2005, Deepika in 2013 and then Katrina in 2007.

What is your favourite?

A betrayal storyline of an on-screen pair in Bollywood movies which you found really sweet rather than heartbreaking unlike Khakee or Fida

My vote will be Dhoom for Ali and Sheena..

If we don't count the hits or flops, do you think Rajkumar Santoshi could have invested more time in making comedies besides making serious movies as he has directed only 3 comedies till now

For me, it is yes especially how Andaz Apna Apna and APKGK have been so much popular all the years. He has the skills to make comedy movies.

Reason you feel that Shraddha Kapoor didn't stick to a particular banner for long time unlike Alia (Dharma), Parineeti (YRF) and Kriti (Maddock)

I acknowledge that Shraddha Kapoor is not a terrific, highly talented actress but I like the fact that she didn't stick with a particular production house for a long period.

A romantic movie and a serious topic movie according to you where you felt the director tried to normalize the action of the protagonist but the person arguing against him / her was not completely wrong or should I say he was correct

For me, it would be KANK and Shaurya.

There can be different views for KK Menon's character but I think Abhishek's character was always right. Imagine, a husband who tried so many efforts to love his wife.

Edit: I completely support for Abhishek Bachchan's character but for KK Menon's character I do feel pity for what happened to his family by a minor.

Reason why Kurbaan failed but Fanaa and New York became hits even though the template of the 3 movies is almost same

I actually liked the movie Kurbaan. And it was not only about love jihad or the intimate scenes of Saif-Bebo, it was more than that.

There is one scene where Saif and Vivek told that how innocent civilians of Afghanistan also died even though Vivek wanted to come into the good books of Saif.

I feel the movie should have been equally connected to audience as it had with Fanaa and New York movie.

But out of the 3, I felt bad for John's character.

A bollywood franchise where you felt the 2nd part was highly overrated and couldn't match the excitement created by 1st part even 50 percent but both were hits in box-office

For me, it will be Jannat.

Somewhere I felt Jannat 2 was lacking in every dimension compared to Jannat except music.

Is it true that Chak De India was making us hate Bindiya Naik's character and love Vidya Sharma's character but in reality we do need a bold, ruthless, aggressive player like Bindiya in any team ?

In Chak De India, there were scenes where it was shown that Bindiya was a bad girl, had no respect for coach Kabir Khan but if I see her only as a player, she had the confidence, the bold attitude and better skills than the other teammates.

But Vidya Sharma was highly dependent on the coach. Even in the last scene, she has to see coach's eyes to know where the ball will come during penalty shootout instead of trusting her own instinct.

I feel in every team be in sports or any other field, there should be a leader like Vidya Sharma and a ruthless, bold, confident player like Bindiya Naik but Chak De India was somehow showing Bindiya as a dark character.

What's your thought on this ?

Even if you consider Andaz Apna Apna as a cult movie but not as a box-office performer, do you think Aamir Khan was the top performer of 90s with every year, him giving at least 1 superhit movie

1990 - Dil

1991 - DHKMN

1992 - JJWS

1993 - HHRPK

1994 - Andaz Apna Apna

1995 - Rangeela

1996 - Raja Hindustani

1997 - Ishq

1998 - Ghulam

1999 - Sarfarosh

Do you think whenever YRF had 2 films around same time, they trust the star power more than the movie

In 2010, Badmash Company and BBB got released.

Shahid Kapoor was enjoying the post Kaminey stardom but BBB was a movie with a new comer and a less experienced actress but they promoted Badmash Company a lot. But BBB was a hit.

In 2014 end Kill Dil was released. It was Govinda's comeback movie and Ranveer Singh gave a steller performance in SLB's Ramleela and Vikram Motwane's critically acclaimed Lootera and they promoted the movie a lot. But in early 2015, it was DLKH which became a hit with Ayushman previously having string of flops whereas Bhumi was a newcomer.

In 2025, they promoted War 2 but Saiyaraa became a hit, a movie with newcomers and Mohit Suri was going through a bad phase in direction before that.

So, is it just coincidence or they believe in starpower more than the movie ?

Successful debut movie characters of bollywood actors according to you over the last 20 years

My ranking will be as follows:

1st one would be Vidyut Jamwal's character as villain in Force. I went to watch as a John Abraham action movie but Vidyut grabbed the attention. I still remember the haunting scene when one of the officers was making a love making scene with his girlfriend in bed and Vidyut appeared with the goons and killed him mercilessly and also the family photo shootout scene. They were really violent.

2nd one would be Dhanush's character in Ranjhanaa. The movie is such a classic that even Tere Ishq Mein couldn't replicate the same popularity.

3rd one will be Ranveer as Bittu from BBB. The Delhi boy and his bonding with Shruti on playing the wedding planner. He was full on energy from the debut movie.

4th one will be Ahaan as Krish in Saiyaraa. We are all under the impression that any actor or actress who debuted in recent years and have bollywood family connection, they can't act but Ahaan Pandey is different.

5th one will be Lakshya playing the army officer in movie Kill. It was an adrenaline rush and adding to that was Raghav's splendid performance.

6th one will be Kartik Aryan as Rajat in PKP. I know girls will hate the character but he did pull the crowd with his role.

Edit : Just for fun.

Okay, how will it be if Lakshya and Vidyut's character are face to face against each other ? Rajat giving tips to Kundan not to fall in love with Zoya. Bittu Shruti planning the wedding for Krish and Vaani.

Shahid Kapoor has 8 solo hits ( non-multistarrer ) out of 35 films but still in limelight.

According to me, the reason is, Bollywood put the bet on Shahid is because all the 8 movies he did are way popular and some of them being iconic.

Ishq Vishq- it was a fresh movie on 2000s college life which current generation might not reciprocate.

Vivah - one of the best Suraj Barjatiya Classics

JWM - Kareena was the centre of attraction but I must tell you, almost all my female batchmates in school were madly in love with Aditya Kashyap's personality. The OG green forest for the ladies.

Kaminey - One of the few, rare Bollywood movies where double role character was fully utilized as per storyline.

R Rajkumar - If you consider it as a masala entertainer, Shahid was a crowd puller as per the movie genre.

Haider - The weakest of the 3 Shakespearean adaptations by Vishal Bharadwaj but it made Shahid popular in art movies.

Kabir Singh and TBMAUJ- The 2 movies were popularized among the masses especially Gen Z people even though TBMAUJ was a semi-hit.

Ananya Pandey's only 2 hit movies

In Ananya Pandey's filmography, there were 2 movies, Pati Patni aur Woh and Dream Girl 2 which were hits.

But PPAW was originally given to Tapsee abd Tapsee was annoyed when it went to Ananya and Nusrat was the original heroine in Dream Girl.

Do you think if the movies hadn't been taken away, Ananya would be having no hits in her career and it would have been an end of road in bollywood for her or still KJO would have backed her as he is doing now ?

Initial career path which Katrina took versus the one current starkids are taking

I remember when Katrina was acting in her initial movies, she was struggling with hindi obviously and still now she struggles because she is a foreigner. Even though she got support from Salman, she never had that urge to play pivotal characters from the first movie like Gunjan Saxena by Janhvi or freedom fighter Usha Mehta by Sara Ali Khan.

Katrina was ok playing the 2nd lead actress in Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya or a cameo in Sarkar or a catalyst in Akshay Kumar movies and even a villain in Race.

After years of struggle, she did show her acting skills in New York, Rajneeti, ZNMD etc. Secondly, she acknowledged if audience can't appreciate her acting for hindi speaking ability, then she diverted their focus to her dancing. She took the hard way to be in the industry.

But today's starkids are like :

Janhvi Kapoor wants to play biopic of an airforce pilot in 2nd movie of her career, Sara Ali Khan as a freedom fighter, then Ananya taking up the role of Nusrat in a Ayushman Khurana classic Dream Girl 2.

Both Katrina and starkids had people supporting them in initial stage but Katrina really knew how to learn from the struggle.

Edit: I don't think Katrina had begged for Vidya's role in BB 1 by asking help from Salman like the way Ananya snatched the role from Nusrat in Dream Girl 2 or Tapsee in PPAW.

Favourite offbeat character of the following superstars which they rarely played but ultimately by coming out of comfort zone

For me, the list is as follows:

Aamir - He never played a complete dark villain before that and he played the character well in Fanaa. None of the superstars dared to play a terrorist in a movie but he did.

Ajay - Raincoat. I didn't choose Legend of Bhagat Singh because the freedom fighter role requires action sequences and Ajay already had action movies before that. His role in raincoat was completely different along with the character and completely out of comfort zone.

Akshay Kumar - Imagine the funny guy from Hera Pheri or the dashing action hero from Khiladi series playing a sad, depressed person who had obstacles between him and his dreams.

Hrithik Roshan - He took the risk of playing an army guy in the initial phase of his career and the character transition was really motivating, and hence the movie name.

SRK - The NRI scientist coming to an Indian village -- that character will be one of his best.

Salman - Before Bajrangi Bhaijaan, he was doing over the top action movies like Kick, Dabaang, Wanted,Bodyguard but he took a different path through Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

How Ali Zafar's character tried to redefine Alia after her breakup with Kunal in Dear Zindagi movie

We all know that SRK was the key person in changing Alia's character and teaching her about love after her breakup with Kunal Kapoor and also Alia dumping Angad Bedi at the start of movie.

But I am curious to know if Ali Zafar's character did bring any change to Alia's character in the movie after the series of bad things she was part of ? What is your thought on this ?

Uday from Dhoom 1

Tushar from SAL

Sohail from I proud to be an Indian

Arjun Kapoor from Ishaqzaade

Is it Tripti Dimri's fault or the audiences'

Tripti has shown her acting skills in LM, Bulbul and Qala. But then she got popularized as an eye candy girl in Animal, BN and BB3. And people started passing bad comments on her, that to stay in Bollywood, she is compromising with meaty, eye candy roles.

I mean every actor or actress want their movies to be box-office hits.

But she gave the audience a chance to see her acting skills in Dhadak 2 but audience made it a flop movie and not even an average. I still find the climax scene of her, an eye-catching one. Ofcourse, she is not supposed to perform like Priyanka Chopra at her initial career but she was better in Dhadak 2 than most of her contemporaries.

So, I don't understand what was her fault. If audience couldn't make Dhadak 2 an average or a hit movie, how she will get the confidence to make such movies where acting is required.
