To hire a lawyer or not

I owe approx 1,700 to Portfolio Recovery Associates.
I have been considering getting a lawyer for $750 flat rate, and they will handle everything from paperwork, motions, showing up to court, trying to get it dismissed and if that fails a reduced settlement. I will be very hands off.

The lawyers I spoke with told me they could probably get it reduced by 60%.

Knowing that, I will be spending/paying close to the same amount I actually owe. Guess I’m trying to figure out if I have a fighting chance and if I can do this myself and save myself $750.

For context:
-Initially missed the first court appearance because I was improperly served at my mom’s house, which I haven’t lived at for 5+ years.
-filed a motion for new trial and was approved.
