Houseplant 🪴 Gardening confession time:

What’s the plant you’ve killed more than once but keep buying anyway?

At what point is it no longer the plant’s fault? 😂

🪴 What’s a gardening hill you will die on?

Something completely unnecessary that you will argue about until the end of time.

Mulch? Miracle-Gro? Native plants? Marigolds? Deadheading?
I want the petty stuff. 😂🌱

Iris Replant Advice

Hi everyone! I inherited some iris bulbs from my Granny’s garden. Over the last 2 years they have really deteriorated (think they aren’t getting sun and water needed in the area they are now). I plan to move ‘soon.’ Is it ok to put them in a planter so they establish some now? I’m concerned that if I dig them up in a later month they won’t fare as well. All advice is appreciated :) 💐

Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t - Chattanooga visit last night.

We had an awesome visit from Joey Santore last night, thanks to our local friend Pate (I apologize if I misspelled your name. It was a pleasure meeting you!).

If you aren’t familiar with Joey, check out his YouTube channel, “Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t.” I have listened to this guy talk for dozens hours over the past few years, and he’s just as entertaining and passionate in person as he is online. He does have an interesting story, and fair warning, uses creative language but the knowledge is choice!

More importantly, Joey is doing incredible work helping people understand why native plants matter. They support pollinators, birds, and other wildlife, strengthen local ecosystems, require fewer resources than many non-native landscapes, and help preserve the unique biodiversity of the places we call home. He has a way of making botany accessible, funny, and genuinely exciting. Even if you never thought plants could be interesting.

Huge thanks to Velo Coffee for hosting such a great event and to everyone who came out. If you missed it, do yourself a favor and give Joey’s channel a follow. Hopefully we’ll get to welcome him back to Chattanooga again soon!

Solitary Chair on Hill next to Taco Bell on Lee Hwy

For some time there was a solitary chair on the hill of the empty lot next to Taco Bell on Lee Hwy. I always thought it was a beautiful sight and wanted to capture a photo of it but it’s no longer there. I imagine a member of the unhoused community would sit there and watch the gorgeous sunsets. I hope it gave them some peace or hope….

I’d love that lot myself! Not sure the point of this post other than hoping maybe someone else noticed it too? Cheers!
